Question about Samsung SyncMaster 205BW LCD Monitor

Monitor Slowly Tilting More & More Towards the Ground

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW 20.1" widescreen monitor that I purchased about 3 months back. When I set it up I was very happy with it, and the picture still looks great. Here's the problem: Slowly, but surely, the monitor is tilting more and more towards the ground. As if the base and support are not strong enough to keep it at a clean 180 degrees from the desk. No amount of pushing, pulling or other brute force methods have worked so far... Any suggestions?

Mine cannot be adjusted back up to a comfortable level. Does anyone know how to adjust it back up? I would be happy to velcro it, or whatever, if I could just get it back to a comfortable viewing level. I was gone for several months, and it seems when I returned, my monitor is in this shape. I can't find anywhere to adjust it.

Unsnap the c shaped cover from the joint area, No screws need to be removed, but you need to tilt the screen so that it will clear when removed.
What you need to do is slip a penny under the two springs which provide tension to the tilt. You can do this by prying them up and pushing a penny under them. Next, you need to increase the friction in the pivot (this alone may be enough to solve the problem.) Several things might work. I used a Permatex thread lock compound and just dripped into the pivot area and let it dry overnight.
Works perfectly now, and I can always add more thread lock easily.

I am not a monitor expert, but from product photos, it looks like the flat panel is mounted on a weak pivot, probably a design fault. I would guess that you probably don't want to spend a lot of time on this problem, and don't wish to make it worse. If it were me, I would probably use some sticky-backed velcro on the panel and base so that the velcro would hold the panel up, and still be adjustable... if the monitor's back is against the wall, it won't be seen.

I didn't see any, but you could also try to see if there was some way to tighten the pivot. But, with so much plastic being used nowadays, there usually are no screws etc, and even if there were screws in such thin plastic, they might strip-out under the additional stress.

If nothing else is obvious to do, just remember that you'll probably replace the whole monitor in a few years and it just won't matter anymore. Only watch out for the next monitor you buy, when the time comes.

OUR sAMSUNG sYNCMASTER 205BW has a red tint in the background and cannot adjust it out.

Hello,

The red or pink tint indicates that the back light florescent bulbs are failing. These bulbs are just like the bulbs in home and office lamps just much much smaller. When the reach the end of life the light output turns from pure white to red because the bulbs are not fully turning on. Check the manufacturer date on the back of the monitor, if its less than 3 years then the monitor is still under warranty. If its older than 3 years then its time to get a new monitor because your is about to fail.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

How do I adjust the tilt function. It seems it is stuck

Tilting on most Monitors is designed to require some force to prevent it from slipping.
Gently yet firmly hold down the base of the monitor on the desk with one hand. Then place a second hand on the bottom of the screen and pull it towards you using even pressure. It will slowly move.
Please also keep in mind that your monitor may not be able to tilt much. If you need it to tilt further, you can buy an alternative stand for it.

Samsung Syncmaster 205bw does not power up. Power button light comes on and cannot turn it off by pushing it.

The processor ic has malfunctioned and is the brains that controls various parts of the monitor, including on/off, picture settings and others to numerous to mention. The monitor is not cost effective for repair and is cheaper to replace.

Do I need a disc to install our samsung syncmaster 205 BW monitor? If so, where do I get it?

Is this a new monitor, and there is no disc with it?
If you are running XP, Vista, Windows 7 etc. than the monitor is plug and play. Just turn the computer off, plug in the monitor, turn on the computer, and you should be good to go.
