Question about Moen & Knob Handle Kit
The knob in our stall shower turns the water on and off by pulling it in and out. The shower knob broke off and what we have found is that the screw that holds the knob in place broke in half and is now lodged inside the piece that is in the wall. How do we repair this problem? Do we have to call a professional (we're hoping not to have to spend the money to do so)? Any advice is appreciated.
You need a screw extractor.
One end drills a hole into the remaining part of the screw. The other end fits inot the hole and turns counter clockwise, gripping the screw and removing it.
You can also buy a bolt extractor which will fit over the stub of the screw. This may work better if you have enough room to access it due to the small diamiter of those screws.
Otherwise, breaking off the surrounding pieces of plastic from the handle and removing the screw with pliers and replacing the handle is about the only way.
