The digtal screen on the freezer door keeps giving an error alarm. I unplugged the refrigerator several times for about a minute but the error re-appears after a few hours of operation. Do I need to wait longer before plugging it back?

We have a Traulsen Ultra RDT 2-24 DUT from 1988. We're starting to have icing on the top left side of the fridge. Nothing unmanageable so far--except when we came back from Thanksgiving, we found that the freezer side had quit. I cleaned everything out and saw that there was quite a bit of water under the ice drawer. Siphoned that out and dried everything off. Water is continuing to drip very slowly out of the right wall of the freezer, though, onto the freezer compartment floor (apparently from the wall seam toward the bottom of the unit). We replaced the refrigerator compressor this year and also a control that determines the temperature swing of the refrigerator side, the latter in an effort to eliminate the icing--the temp was going quite low. It didn't eliminate the icing, though. All these repairs cost quite a bit, and we wonder a) if we now need to replace the freezer compressor and b) if it makes sense to sink any more money into this unit if the insulation is breaking down. We do love it and would like to keep it running if possible.
