Question about Philips HTS3440/37 System

Playing movies through usb port?

I have a Phillips HTS3544 I have decided to play movies from an external hard drive via the dvd player's USB port and this works just fine. The picture is clear, but the sound is very choppy. It's easy to view the dvd menus on the screen to select which movie I want to view. The menus within the movies do not work with the controller. I thought storing movies on the ext hd would save me from putting them DVD's. Please help!!!!!!

Hi,
The options when you play a DVD it will appear when you are connecting ext HD it will not work.
Better you need the play in a DVD Disc to get the good sound.

It's unlikely that you're doing something wrong. Did you buy this DVD player as one that is supposed to support connecting hard drives? If not, then the player probably doesn't support connecting a hard drive.

Could very well be that the external hard drive is drawing more power than what the player can deliver - it is enough for a usb stick but not for the external drive. Now if you use an external drive that is self powered I am sure there will be no issue.

Video playback for toshiba 52xv645u

You can get some external HD Players that have TV out, but quality is not good. Can't you use a laptop with a Video out, or a USB Video Out? Or some DVD players have a USB port, I picked one up the other day for NZ25.00, It plays ALL DVD's and has a USB, so I can play movies from there. Solution or what?

Playing movies from external hard drive

Hi rox09
Well you can rip your DVD to any external drive using and third party DVD ripping software ,once you do that you will get a AVI,MPEG and any common fomats your DVD player supports

Inorder to play those files in your DVD player ,you need the check whether your DVD has a USB input port or else if you laptop or computer has a S-video out put and your TV has S-Video input ;you can play directly from your laptop/computer to the TV using a S-video Cable which is available in any Computer shop.
I hope this helps

Phillips 1TB HDD problem, playing movies hrough DVD player (USB)

My question would be are the movies in the right format. Just because they play on your computer does not mean they will play on you DVD.NTFS or FAT 32 would have no bearing on this. They are simply data per sector protocols and are related to magnetic storage devices. You may need the proper codec for you computer so it can make a DVD you player can play.

Movie download

The movie you had downloaded is in AVI or divx format ....for that you need to have a divx enabled DVD Player.......
If your dvd player does't support DivX format .... it won't play it..
Try running that movie in DivX enable DVD Player

Video playback is not smooth while playing via USB 1.1

USB1.1 port can generally handle transfer speeds approaching 5.5Mbps between PC and DVD Camcorder. Smooth playback of movies requires 5.5Mbps speeds or above. If the PC you are using has some compatibility issues with the USB driver software, the USB port may drop to speeds below 5.5Mbps causing short pauses during video playback. It is recommended to copy the movie file from the DVD Camcorder to the hard disc drive (HDD) on your PC, then playback the movie from the hard drive.
