I have a vaio vgc lt 16e that has crashed

I cant get windows to start...it keeps asking me to start safe mode, windows normally, etc. I called sony and they said they could send recover disk in 3 weeks. I cant wait, I have backed up my information.
How do I reformat my computer back to basic vista??

Unfortunately I didnt receive any disk with my computer..or if I did, I have misplaced them.

In reference to the F10 key, it requires me to insert a disk. I was under the impression that I could reformat without an outside disk. I purchased the computer from a Sony outlet store in March 2008.

Thanks for the feedback. I am ok with wiping the machine clean and starting over. I have everything backed up.

unfortunately, after spending quite awhile on the phone with Sony, it was determined that the partition on my computer that allows a reformat without disks has failed...so i must wait a few weeks for my recovery disk to arrive.

    thanks anway.

Well if your computer is 2003 or newer .. you will be able to do it from the start up when the computer first starts up you would TAP on the F10 key ..

BUT REMEMBER DOING THIS YOU WOULD LOSE ALL PERSONAL DATA AND IT WOULD GO BACK TO FACTORY DEFAULTS SO ANYTHING THAT YOU PLACED ON THE COMPUTER AFTER BUYING IT WOULD BE LOST!!!

then you would select restore complete system then it takes about 1 hour to 1 1/2

Won't start says windows did not shut down normally tries to start but comes back to same screen

Could be dozens of things. This usually happens when there is a crash (blue screen) during boot up. Did you recently do any upgrades? Is this Windows XP or Vista? Try starting in Safe Mode if you can. The possible fixes include doing a CHKDSK (check disk), rolling back to older drivers, or a repair install of the OS.

I can not turn on my Sony Vaio laptop. when I press the on botton it shows vaio and windows xp as if its starting then it keeps on doing same procedure without turning on to windows xp for use! Thanx.

use a windows setup disc and check for problems on your installation, it sounds as if a driver update is causing the laptop to crash , hence why windows is not starting. Have you tried entering safe mode? Are you able to start windows this way?

Hello, I have a Sony Vaio VGC-V3M and I have just a black screen after starting it. I can hear windows loading, and I get the vaio logo, then the Windows XP logo but then blackness. I can get the Bios...

If you can see the windows logo and get into the bios then it is not the graphics card.

Most likely cause is the os itself, just after post press F8 repeatetly until you have the boot mode page open and choose safe mode, in safe mode do a system restore, goto start bar, programs, accessories, system tools and system restore, and start from a resent restore point. This can can take a while, so be patient and let the computer restore itself until you have the windows screen up.

If the restore dosent work, goto safe mode again, right click on my computer goto properties and enter device manager, in there under display adapters click on the plus sign and uninstall the graphics card, reboot. hope this helps post back if need farther help.

My sony vaio vgc-js160j has a blue screen, shutdown and then restarts

When booting press F8,or your button to get to the Screen that has Safe Mode etc on it..then select 'Disable Automatic Restart on System Error'

Maybe it might be a Memory Fault or a Startup Program causing this BsoD.

You might then try to run your PC in Safe mode and look for Programs you installed recently.

Hope this helps

Have a Sony VGC-RB60 Series PC. Got back from

Try the booting from the windows cd and repairing the os? if not working you may need a fresh install which means you will lose your data but your pc will still work. You can always download from www.ubuntu.com and burn the os to a cd rom and boot from cd, this will load a verison of linux, When cd rom starts chose RUN LIVE CD, this will not change the pc at all, when the os starts up you can go to places at the top and go through all your windows files and save the ones you want to keep to cd or external hd, then reistall windows, or who knows you might love linux and enjoy something thats free :)

Windows will not start up

choose start windows in Safe mode, if it starts then everything will look big, don't worry about that for now. Then go to Start>accessories>system Tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that everything was working normally, when it has finished restoring the computer will restart. If asked choose start windows normally.

I hope this helps
