I cant get windows to start...it keeps asking me to start safe mode, windows normally, etc. I called sony and they said they could send recover disk in 3 weeks. I cant wait, I have backed up my information.
How do I reformat my computer back to basic vista??

if you have a PC then when it has the codes there will be options so you click on "start windows normally" because it is in safe mode that happens after your computer has dump crashed. so if you change it that might help! good luck
Could be dozens of things. This usually happens when there is a crash (blue screen) during boot up. Did you recently do any upgrades? Is this Windows XP or Vista? Try starting in Safe Mode if you can. The possible fixes include doing a CHKDSK (check disk), rolling back to older drivers, or a repair install of the OS.
use a windows setup disc and check for problems on your installation, it sounds as if a driver update is causing the laptop to crash , hence why windows is not starting. Have you tried entering safe mode? Are you able to start windows this way?
If you can see the windows logo and get into the bios then it is not the graphics card.
Most likely cause is the os itself, just after post press F8 repeatetly until you have the boot mode page open and choose safe mode, in safe mode do a system restore, goto start bar, programs, accessories, system tools and system restore, and start from a resent restore point. This can can take a while, so be patient and let the computer restore itself until you have the windows screen up.
If the restore dosent work, goto safe mode again, right click on my computer goto properties and enter device manager, in there under display adapters click on the plus sign and uninstall the graphics card, reboot. hope this helps post back if need farther help.
Try the booting from the windows cd and repairing the os? if not working you may need a fresh install which means you will lose your data but your pc will still work. You can always download from www.ubuntu.com and burn the os to a cd rom and boot from cd, this will load a verison of linux, When cd rom starts chose RUN LIVE CD, this will not change the pc at all, when the os starts up you can go to places at the top and go through all your windows files and save the ones you want to keep to cd or external hd, then reistall windows, or who knows you might love linux and enjoy something thats free :)
choose start windows in Safe mode, if it starts then everything will look big, don't worry about that for now. Then go to Start>accessories>system Tools>system restore and choose a date when you know that everything was working normally, when it has finished restoring the computer will restart. If asked choose start windows normally.
When your computer is rebooting, push the F8 key. It will change your start up options and you will see disable automatic reboot on system failure. You can they see the error and continue research on the problem.
