LCD Screen wont show anything but still usable..

As described above..
when i turn on the camera on to "camera mode"
i can see out of the viewfinder but when i open
the lcd screen, the viewfinder of course goes blank
but the lcd wont show anything i flip it over and close
it so that the screen is pointing out, and the viewfinder
turns on again, and i can still use the screens buttons
to browse through the menus and what not..

same goes when it is in "play/edit mode"

would anyone know what exactly is wrong??
or what i can do to fix it on my own..

ive had this camera for over 3 years, and would
like to get it fixed soon, before my brother graduates
from the navy rtc..

thanks..

There is a cable that goes from the main camera body to the LCD panel that may have a crack in it or the connector may be loose. These cameras are not the easiest to work on because everything is very compact and the internal connection cables are short making access tricky at best. The potential to incur further damage is significant enough that I would suggest that you seek a service shop to repair this. If the cable is the problem expect a parts cost in the $30 range.

Keep us posted.

Abrsvc said absoultly correct and I do agree that camcorder is very compact and care must be taken while repairng it.

Possible cause of cable damage can be ...flip-flop of lcd panel many times.

My handycam screen is blank and doesn't show anything

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if there is no picture or a black screen appears in the viewfinder or LCD when attempting to record.
NOTES:
* Because each of these steps represents a possible solution to this issue, check the viewfinder or LCD status after completing each step.
* It may be necessary to refer to the operating instructions provided with the camcorder for information on how to perform a task on your specific model.
1. Ensure the lens cap on the front of the camcorder has been removed.
2. Ensure a fully-charged battery is inserted in the camcorder.
3. Ensure the STANDBY/LOCK switch is set to the STANDBY position.
4. Turn on the camcorder and set it to the CAMERA mode.
5. Look to see if an image can be seen in the viewfinder or LCD.
IMPORTANT: Some camcorders have both a viewfinder and LCD. To conserve power, the viewfinder and LCD will not display at the same time. To use the viewfinder, the LCD must be closed.
6. If the issue is not resolved, reset the camcorder to factory specifications.
NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing the troubleshooting steps, service may be required .

I can turn my camera on, but there is no screen or sight for recording or play edit.

normally, if you can turn the camera on everything should work including the lcd. if its just an issue with the imaging sensor, you wont see anything on the viewfinder (for the viewfinder to work you need to close the lcd screen) but should at least see the indicators, same in the lcd screen and view your videos in playback mode. if its an lcd screen issue, there would be nothing coming up in any mode the camera is set to. you can try to reset cam back to default settings (press reset while cam is on, its located on the side where you have the handstrap, just below the speaker), or do power reset (remove the batt and ac adapter for at least a minute). if still the same, your unit may require service. thanks. hope this helps.

When I turn on my camera the LCD screen is balck and I cant see anything thruough the lens. It does take pics because when I upload the disck Ic an see the new pics

Double check if the viewfinder is operable (not the LDC but the little thing you look through with one eye above it). Try pressing the display button to flip through the different modes as you're looking through the viewfinder. If the viewfinder does work (and the LCD screen doesn't come on as you're scrolling through the modes) then it is most likely dead (broken). If the viewfinder works, you're can still use the camera otherwise it's probably time to get a new one.

Blank screen

Sounds like you accidentally pressed the DISP (Display) button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the screen on and off in picture taking mode to save battery power. You could then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn it back on, just the DISP button one more time.

My sony DSC-H1's LCD is not showing anything...but I can operate the camera with its view finder... Do you have any idea why it happens? and is there any master reset option for this camera?

I have a similar SONY camera. Turn the camera on and to the right of the viewfinder (or perhaps in a different location on your model) there will be a small button that reads, "FINDER/LCD". Press that button once to see if your view switches back from viewfinder mode to LCD display mode.

Camera screen remains black when I turn on shooting mode

Turn the camera on. With the screen showing, press the DISP button and this will give you a selection of different screen views i.e. squares for aligning shot squarely; black - thru viewfinder only; etc. Different modes will give you different screen displays i.e. P setting screens are different to when you have the camera set on AUTO.

Hope this helps.

LCD Monitor on ,and the Electronic Viewfinder turned off

If you turn on the back LCD, the electronic viewfinder will remain on while in a shooting mode. There is no setting on the camera to use only the back LCD monitor while shooting. If you playback images in the Play mode, only the LCD monitor will turn on. However, if you press the Monitor button while in the Play mode, than the back LCD monitor will turn off. The image will display only in the viewfinder LCD.

Using the camera screen (LCD) as a viewfinder

To use the LCD as a viewfinder: Turn the Mode dial to any Still mode. Press the OK button to turn on the camera screen. Frame your subject in the LCD. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. NOTE: Using the camera screen as a viewfinder significantly reduces battery power. Use it sparingly.
