Question about Compaq Evo N600C PC Notebook

1 Answer

No speaker sound

My sound wont come out of my speakers unless i put a 3.5 mm headphone set halfway or 3/4 of the way in the jack it will go to the speakers but only one side. with headphones and speakers hooked up to the jack it also only plays on one side, i wonder if there is a way to fix this without having to buy another jack to replace the one i have in the computer.

Unfortunately, these small jacks are not very durable.
They can be constructed to turn off internal speakers when a plug is inserted into the jack or not. There are normally small bumps on contacts in the jack that are pressed upon when inserting the plug and if their spring qualities are less than good, they stay somewhat bent after the plug is removed leaving one or more channels dead.
The cost of a replacement jack is miniscule (any electronic supply that caters to hobbiests will have them) but the replacement may require extreme care. The jack could be a board-mount type with angled leads that are inserted through the board or could be attached by thin wires. With care, the board mount type is the neatest to replace but one should have some soldering skills and a good iron to avoid damaging the circuit board. The wired type makes a messy repair and demands even more skill to keep stray wires from shorting each other and one always risks breaking the thin conductors while handling them.

Can I connect original Harmon/Kardon Sound Sticks speakers with a 3.5 mm headphone-type jack instead of the USB it came with?

USB speakers are a different animal to standard passive or active speakers.

The USB cable will carry power and a digital signal and the speakers have circuitry to convert this into a stereo analogue signal the speakers require.

Normal active computer speakers with a 3.5 mm jack plug obtain the power from an independent power source, passive speakers require no additional power, but in both cases they use an analogue signal from the sound card.

The short answer you wanted is no...

Is it possible to install aux 3,5 mm plugg?

Probably not, but you can buy a 3.5 mm.-to-RCA adapter cable to hook up a device with RCA (L/R) AUDIO OUT jacks (and no 3.5 mm. headphone jacks) to your Harman Kardon speakers which, I assume, have only 3.5 mm. LINE/AUX IN jacks (1 or 2).

I cant get sound on my viewsonic va520

You need to add some information - what is the source for the video that you are viewing on the VA520? The VA520 has no speakers in it. If it is a desktop computer, look on the back of the computer for a green 3.5 mm stereo audio port. This is your speaker out connection. Plug in any set of computer speakers or headphones. (Computer speakers may require a USB connection or to be plugged into an AC outlet to power the speakers.) You can find cheap speakers for under $20; good speakers will be more expensive. With a laptop or some desktops, you'll find a headphone jack on the front of the computer. (This will be labeled with a small picture of a set of headphones.) The headphone jack is also a 3.5 mm stereo port.

I hope this helps.

(laptops usually have internal speakers; most desktops do not have any internal speaker anymore. If you have headphones with RCA audio plugs, you can use a RCA F/F to 3.5 mm M audio adapter to use them with the computer. A stereo system may not work with a computer.)

Suddenly no sound from speakers

First, we must determine if the problem is with the speakers themselves, or with hardware or software of the computer. Try plugging a set of headphones into the audio out jack of your system (often times, this will be a green colored jack). Play sound on the computer while listening to the headphones, can you hear the sound? If so, the problem is with the speakers, otherwise, you need to troubleshoot software/hardware of the system. Another method would be to try plugging these speakers into the headphone jack on an mp3 player, mobile cd player, stereo, or similar device. Aside from the system not putting out sound, the speakers could be plugged into the incorrect jack on the system (not audio out, OR not audio out on the correct device), or turned all the way down.

Where to hook up headphone jacks to allow TV speakers to continue working while using headphones I.E. I have jacks on front of TV but they do not give me out put sound. which ones should I use on back of...

Unless you have an external headphone amplifier, you need to use the headphone jack socket, if there is one. Some newer TV's allow for separate headphone volume and speaker volume control.
Have a look in your user manual.

Plug for pc speakers wire

To use the speakers on the TV when you connect to a PC, get a 3.5 mm M/M audio cable (it may be called a patch cable or audio aux cable) and connect it to the PC audio in port to the left of the composite A/V ports (that's the group with 3 RCA jacks yellow (video)/red(R audio)/white (L audio)). The other end goes into the computer's line out (speaker out) port - which is generally colored green. Otherwise your regular computer speakers will play the audio.

If you want the TV's audio to output to external speakers, use the headphone jack (sometimes labels Phones, again a 3.5 mm plug) or a set of speakers/receiver that takes an optical audio connection. The optical audio jack is between the two coax connectors. Please note using the headphone jack will force the internal speakers off.

I hope this helps.

Logitech speakers :(

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, I feel uncomfortable cutting the 3 plugs, splicing them together and soldering to just one plug. What I have in mind is to use 3 barrel jacks (use stereo, the image is for a mono), splice them together and connect a single 3.5 mm plug, homemade splitter.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

The speakers on my laptop do not have any sound. I can hear sound only when I plug in headphones. Is there a way to switch speakers? I have a Compag Presario v2000

You could have damaged the sensor in the 3.5 mm headphone jack so your computer does not realize that there are no headphones plugged in. If thats is the case you will have to have the sound card replaced. Another problem could be that the driver is messed up if you recently updated drivers roll back the sound cards driver or update it. Finally you can simply hook up old non usb speakers that use the headphone jack.
