I replaced the coupling, which was well-worn, but I am still having the same problem....tub will not spin out. I have tried moving the tub manually, and it will turn but it is difficult. Is there a chance there is something jammed between the tubs, and if so how would I check that?

This is something that can be done yourself and is very easy. First on the console you will find 2 screws depending on the model the screws can be in the front behind the plastic end caps ( you will have to pull it from the top and it will come down ) or in the back of the console on the left and right sides. after you remove the screws the console can be pulled to the front of the unit and flipped up, you will see a brass clamp on the left and right, take a flat blade screwdriver and pop them out, now disconnect the lid sw and open the lid and pull the cabinet toward you lift up and out this will expose the whole machine. now get on the floor in the bottom center of the unit you will find the pump held on by two clips pop off the clips and pull the pump off the motor ( when reinstalling the pump make sure the motor shaft and the female part on the pump are lined up ) now disconnect the motor wires and in some cases remove the 2 5/16th screws holding the 2nd pair of clips in place if your unit does not have the screws pop off the 2nd pair of clips , now with the motor out you will see the coupling one half on the motor and the other on the shaft for the trans, you can pop the parts off with a flat blade screw driver. now you are ready to install the new part. place the end of the new coupling on the motor use a 3/8 socket and tap the part on till its flush with the shaft, do the same with the trans coupling also now put the unit back together and your set to go. Hope this helps

I have a Kenmore top loading large capacity washer model 1028882791. It began washing as usual then began to making a loud humming sound. The agitation stopped. It only makes a loud humming sound. I...

The humming sound is coming from the drive motor running but unable to drive the agitator nor the basket to spin. The drive motor is definitely running as the drain function works because of the fact that drain pump is directly coupled with the rear spline of the motor. The drain pump works in either direction as long as the motor runs. The problem is obviously a broken motor coupler which transfers the mechanical energy of the motor to the transmission. The solution then is to replace the broken coupler. Click on the link below for the detailed step-by-step procedure in replacing the motor coupler.

Merry Christmas! Our washing machine whirlpool

Hello there and merry christmas to you too
ok please read this solution fully this will be posted in 2 posts so i can get it all for you ok
There are a couple of different reasons that this problem happnes on these machines i have this listed below please feel free to leave me a comment on any of these if you need help trying to figure out how to inspect them or test them ok but you will need a multimeter to do most of the testing.
Lid switch If the lid switch is defective, the washing machine may not agitate or function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washing machine to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Motor coupler Many washers produced by Whirlpool® use a small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it. Belts Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with special characteristics not found in automotive belts.) i will continue in the next post

Hi. My washer suddenly stopped running the high speed spin. The drum will roll for the cycle and rinse but it will not spin at the end so the clothes are coming out soaking wet. Any suggestions? ...

HI there,

Well first of all you can check the motor coupler-
To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning:
If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine.
If it isn't spinning then you may have a broken coupler. many washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it. Please post comments for more help or information.......

Good Luck!!

Thanks

The drum is not spinning. I hear a noise like when you stick something in your bike spokes.

Hi, Slounds like the coupler has broken. The coupler connects the transmission to the motor. If the coupler is broke, the washer will not agitate in the wash cycle either. Here are insttructiions on how to change the coupler.

Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screws are in front but, some models have the screws in back. They are on each end. Now raise the control panel up and let it rest on the hinges. Unplug the lid switch harness and locate the clips on each side (bronze in color) and release them. Now the cabinet will lift off the frame and you can set it aside.
How to replace a coupler:
Now that the cabinet is out of the way, remove the pump from the motor and set the pump off to the side. Remove the two screws holding the clips on the motor and remove the clips. Unplug the motor harness and on some models you will need to unplug the capacitor.
Now you will need to replace all three parts to the coupler. I use a ½” socket and a small hammer to force the coupler onto the motor and transmission shafts. Put the rubber part onto the coupler half on the transmission and then line up the post on the motor shaft with the holes on the rubber part and it should go on ok. Put the clips that hold the motor in place and plug in the harnesses.
Put the pump back on and the clips to hold it in place. Set the cabinet back on the frame. Make sure the lip on the front cabinet is under the front rail of the frame. Ease the cabinet on the frame making sure the two rear sides of the cabinet set down on the tabs of the frame.
Put the two clips back on that hold the cabinet and plug the lid switch back in. Fasten the control panel down and you are all set.

Please let me know if this helps you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

How to change the belt for a whirlpool washing machine

Hi, Whirlpool washers have a coupler instead of a belt. If you are sure yours has a belt, please send me a model # so I can look this up.
If you tip the washer against the wall and look at the motor from underneath, The pump is attached to the motor right behind the front panel and then the motor attatched to the transmission with the coupler that is 2 white plastic pieces and a black piece.
Here are the instructions on changing the coupler:
Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screw are in front but, some models have the screws in back.

Unplug the motor harness and on some models you wil need to unplug the capacitor.
Now you will need to replace all three parts to the coupler. I use a ½” socket and a small hammer to force the coupler onto the motor and transmission shafts. Put the two clips back on that hold the cabinet and plug the lid switch back in. Fasten the control panel down and you are all set.

Drum not moving

The belt that moves the drum is broken resulting in the rubber shreds you see. If you feel that you can replace the belt, I can talk you through it. Other wise, it is best to have a repairman do it.
