You will have to take it to a Cannon service center. You can look for a Cannon service center in the US by going to usa.canon.com/home. If you plugged in the wrong power supply and fried it, it may not be covered under warranty but that determination will have to be made by Canon.

Assuming you can even FIND a new board, the price would be close to just purchasing new. You have damaged the Power supply. If there is not an internal fuse, there is more than one failure on the board. Take to a professional with the proper testing equipment, or use the repair money toward a new updated camera.

Due to over voltage passed in the camera its quite possible that the fuse on its board may have been blown up and needs replacement.the fuse will cost you $2 for replacement.many times with the fuse also the board gets short internally.but to check out where the circuit got short you will have to use meter on the boardor get it checked at repair center to locate the exact faulty component on the board except the fuse.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, most camcorders have 2 internal surface mounted fuses. 1 for the battery and another for the external power supply (charger). They are relatively easy to replace, it is the dis-assembly that is a challenge.

Perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a Canon authorized SC. This is to be assured of parts availability should the issue be more than fuses.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Disconnect all power and batteries and wait 15 min. If there is a back-up battery (don't think there is), take it out as well. Hopfully this will reset the camera. Otherwise you overloaded a circuit and the camera will likely need a new power supply circuit board.
Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure

Good luck, let me know if this helped

Need to remove tape from Canon optura 50 with camera off. The camera has died, and will not power up.

Hi,

Looks like the Canon Camcorder has failure in the drive system for the tape. This is mechanical issue, so you would need to take it in to get fixed.

A few times I've been able to resolve this by blowing compressed air in the frame and cleaning the head
( try this if you can do it )

Else, you will have to get this repaired by a professional technician.

My camera is jammed up and won't eject the tape. Any thoughts? When I plug in the power cord it won't even power up???

Sounds like you have a "dead" camcorder. This can be caused by a circuit protect (tiny fuse) being blown or a bad board. This will need to be repaired by an experienced technician. www.austintelstarservices.com

never buy a canon. i have the same issue and it is not easy to fix. i dissasembled the thing already but too complicated. the lithium memory battery inside too is non user replaceable as it is illustrated in the manual. you got to have it serviced to replace it because that small battery is soldered. poor buyers....

Optura Pi is eating tapes

hi from what i understand by "eat" is that the coil is popped out what it means is that the coil leader is misplaced and letting it to run free out of place this can be fixed by you if you will find what had gone wrong in that path (broken pin, cog etc...) and glue it back or fix the missing element in place good luck
