Power drive doesn't work

Power Drive? If you are talking about a machine that drives forward when you push on the handle and drives in reverse when you pull on the handle, this machine does not have that feature.

The cleaner does it's job well. Using on standard short carpet.
The problem so far is after 6-8 uses it started making a grinding noise when pulling backward.
Brushes still spinning just had the noise and the unit still functioned properly.
I only use it about every 3-4 months to clean 3 rooms.
The last use the noise got worse as it was making in forward and reverse motions.
The noise would usually start after using it for 5-10 minutes.
I figured it might be a slipping belt on the beaters and probably water was getting on the belt making it worse.
I removed the circular beater assy by just pulling it out.
Removed the round front beater by removing 3 screws, 2 at each end and one holding the belt guard on towards the middle. Once the beater is loose slide it out through the belt.
The front beater cogs for the belt had some black build up in between several cogs.
I cleaned the cogs very thoroughly, checked the belt for wear and checked the motor gear. They looked ok.
Assembled in reverse, did a quick dry test but didn't fill all the fluids to do a full test. That will have to wait till next time.
Please don't hold me accountable if you try this and break something, the cleaner is made mostly of plastic and the pieces can easily break. Don't try unless you are willing to take the risk, it may void warranty if it gets broken.
If problem still persists then will try using the 6 year warranty that it supposedly has... From what i've read it might be a pain getting it fixed under warranty.

Does power drive wheels work both in forward and reverse and if they dont what is the solution? mine seems to work only in reverse??

The drive transmission works in both directions. If they do not, then the metal cable connection (under the hood) that connects the handlle grip to the transmission, may be slightly out of center adjustment.

It could be in reverse do you have any tips

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. the Hoover Model # F8515 works on the pull back to pickup the water and on the push forward you can dispense extra water or solution and the brushes will still scrub but on the pull back it dispenses, scrubs and also picks up the water all in one sweep, if not then contact you local vacuum dealer in your area, check the owner’s manual for the trouble shooting guide and or call the Hoover Factory cust serv @ the information listed below.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

I don't know how the end fits back on the replacement cable.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Vacuum. There is a hook on the bottom of the vacuum and @ the top by the handle as well. You may what to get a schematic or owner’s manual to see how they hook up because of the newer and different Model #’s for Hoover. The Hoover Self-Propelled works on when the handle is lower to a comfortable position then the self-propelled drive may just need and adjustment. There is a self-propelled rod that controls the self-propelled feature and it either needs adjustment or replacement or the part that hold it may be broken but either one can be fixed. So feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer with questions. E drive problem. Self propelled feature drives in reverse, but not in forward.

This is basically the same problem with a Hoover power drive only the forward still drives albeit slowly and a slight "push" to keep it going. There has to be a common core type of drive failure !!
