Hi khurramrkt,

From the link below, locate your Data Traveler and download a new copy of the security software for it. Use the new copy to access the private zone which is probably where the missing 2GB is at.

DataTraveler 101 (DT101) 8gb write protection cant read or write on it what can i do

You will have to be the computer administrator to change any values on any hard drive

click start control panel user accounts you should see a box with the administrator and the guest account if you have made one click on the administrator this may vary depending on which operating system you have

click start click to open on my computer you should see your hard drive usually C: right click select properties there will be an array of options select the security tab option then advanced make sure you have full control in windows 7

click start control panel user accounts click on the administrators account if you have made one or you will have to create one in windows XP

USB drives can be write-protected by modifying the StoreageDevicePolicies Registry key and WriteProtect Registry value.
click Start>run>regedit to open Registry Editor. and press control+F to open the find dialogue box and type "usb device" or "driverdesc" to open usb mass storage device or type "usb mass storage device" in the search windows. And right click on it and delete. This will set the policy value to 0. then insert your usb device. It will work fine.
# Remember: do not delete any unknow files in the registry as this will make some programes not work as usual.

also
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:
- click start right click on my computer select open
- Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
- Click Properties in the menu that comes up
- Click the Sharing tab
- Click permissions
- And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.
hope this helps

I have my kingston data traveler 101 16 GB. I cannot store videos and music all folders i created are empty please give me a solution to my problem

Ok try to plug it to the USB port at the back of your CPU usually USB port at the back of the CPU supply sufficient power to the device that was plugged in that port so it functions properly cause a USB device plugged to a USB port w/ low or insufficient power supply in that device may cause the device not to work properly that's the reason why your flash drive wasn't recognize by your system. Also that is the reason why you can't view any file in your device.

My one week old usb today said used capacity 0 bytesfree 0 bytesfile system raw.cannot be formated.it says insert flash drive. This happened the last new usb device I bought three weeks ago. Is this a...

This is probably a problem of system files on the USB key.

First of all, read the manual for the key, and verify that no utility provided with the key to reset or reformat. If such a utility is present, it is recommended that you used same before proceed to next step.

Otherwise, to reformat and therefore repair the USB key, you can use standard tools of Windows. Insert the key into the USB port of a PC, then go to:

Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Storage / Disk Management /

Select the drive to the USB key in but ensure same is not a hard disk system!

Once the back up of your USB key effected, delete the existing partitions on the key (right click / delete the partition.). Format the key to FAT16 using all the available space (right-click / Format). For more than 2GB, it is recommended that you format same as FAT32.

If the available space is under the capacity of the key, this is surely a hardware problem, in which case it may be necessary to reduce the after-sales service.

It should be noted however that a difference of about 10% should not be considered, prior the way the manufacturer has recorded bytes. To be more appropriate, as a manufacturer considers that a Megabyte equals 1 million bytes or 1024 * 1024 bytes, a key of 512 MB can display 512 000 000 bytes or 488 481 250 bytes.

The computer does not accept the Kingston usb!

Kingston is a decent brand device. Does the port recognize the device and is just unable to install drivers? Does the USB port work for other devices? Have you tried other ports? Go to device manager (start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager). Are there any rec X's? Any yellow asterisks? Fix whatever you find. These are just some hints that I hope will help you find your problem. I assume your device is a jump drive. You might try another also... perhaps yours is faulty.

Hi,

under control panel>system>hardware>device manager look the port up and see wether its still working fine, and if needed try to look up the firmware, the software of the port that makes the pc system able to literally control the port, and any hardware, and to reinstall it .

if this however doesn't reaklly seems te problem then try the card in an other device/pc...
might be broke so than it's not to late to change it for free.

Hope this is helpful, and greetings,

Olivier.

DT mini Slim 4GB not working

run this command:

c:\format xx:\ /FS:FAT32 /A:4096

Substitute "xx" for the drive letter that windows gives to the Kingston DT Mini 4GB.

It worked for me after using it as a Jolicloud Live Bootable USB.

I bought Kingston dt101/16GB and can't copy large files into it. it begins the copy but hangs up. I have anothers dt101/8GB and they work fine

1. If it is formatted into FAT32, it will NOT copy files larger than 2GB. If you have larger files, you should format the drive in NTFS.

2. It may be a fake drive. You can use h2testw software to check if it is of fake capacity.
