An electrical component used in certain FAX PHONE B640 units manufactured between September 30, 1999, and January 26, 2000, may present a risk of fire.
This potential risk, and Canon's commitment to customer satisfaction and safety, have led us to implement a special Instant Exchange Program to replace, at no cost to customers, all FAX PHONE B640s bearing the following serial numbers:
UKK52923 to UKK55442
UKK60513 to UKK99999
YKK02001 to YKK20000
The serial number on your FAX PHONE B640 is printed on a silver sticker located on the back of your product, as shown below:
If your FAXPHONE B640 contains one of the above-listed serial numbers, simply call our special Instant Exchange Program toll-free number, (888) 280-7858, between 8:00 a.m. - midnight, Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, or between noon - 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time, on Saturday.* We will arrange to ship you a new FAXPHONE B640 or comparable model, complete with a one-year warranty, at no charge. We also will provide you with a toll-free telephone number to call to arrange pickup of your used FAXPHONE B640. There will be no charge to you for this pickup. Please DO NOT return your FAXPHONE B640 to the retailer from whom you purchased it.
If you have any questions concerning your FAXPHONE B640 or the special Instant Exchange Program, please call Canon at 888-280-7858 or email Canon at B640@va.cits.canon.com.
*If you cannot use the toll-free number because you live outside the United States, you may call (757) 413-2848, and receive additional directions for the replacement of your FAXPHONE B640.
Try plugging a phone, with a different cord, to the wall outlet the B640 is using. Do you hear a dial tone? If you do, replace the existing phone cord going to your B640. Now press the "hook" button on your B640. Do you hear a dial tone? If you answered yes, what messages are you seeing displayed now? Once I know your answer, we can take it from there.
