Question about Dishwashers

Water not pumping into dishwasher

Even though the motor comes on when the washer is turned on, when water should be pumping into the appliance, nothing happens. Yesterday while investigating the problem I found standing water and black slimey mold under the filter screen

I first checked the water valve in the dishwasher. It was working properly. The overflow or water level sensor had become stuck in the 'high level' position, thus telling the washer that it was already full of water. I corrected that and it began working properly. As for water in the bottom of the dishwasher that didn't seem to be draining completely - I turned the timer to a point in the cycle where it would drain, making sure I turned the washer off before it cycled back to the 'fill or rinse' cycle. I think the water had accumulated because of the timing of the cycles getting out of sync with the water level in the washer.

What is wrong I am getting a E 1 error on my LG Dish washer?

This is the code for a water leak, though FAR more commonly it means that the main wash pump is faulty. (I have only ever once seen E1 after a leak, even though that is the design).

This happens as the pump impeller is no longer fastened to the motor shaft, dishwasher misreads this as a drop in pressure, as it would have if water was leaking.

A new wash pump is fairly cheap, less than $100.00 and LGs are excellent dishwashers. I recommend fixing.
Tip: To replace the wash motor, take off the side panels, then turn the whole dishwasher upside down and remove the base. It seems like a lot of effort at first, but makes the replacement simple.

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

We use the Cascade tablets but they don't dissolve

Either:

1. the water does not get into the dishwasher open the dishwasher 3-4 times during cycle, you should see some water at least once, if not - check water valve, water level float and water pressure.
2. the pump is clogged - there is water, the motor will run but no water is circulated. Check pump filters, check chopper and impeller.
3. motor in main pump is not working - could be caused by something stuck on the impeller or chopper or could be a problem with the motor itself or control board. Check if line voltage is coming to the motor during wash/rinse cycle.

Good luck,

Wash cycle doesn't seem to work. bottom has water

Your gonna have to pull the dishwasher out and shut off the water line. Then disconnect the water hose and get you a bucket. Then turn on the water line to see if water comes out. If water comes out strong then your water supply line is good, which means your inlet port on the dishwasher is clogged or hard water has clogged the little holes in the dishwasher arms. Dishwashers are meant to leave a little water remaining at the bottom to keep the sensor from burning up.

Water will not drain. Do not know if its a drain

Drain out is done via the pump out motor. Is the pump out motor working? Check by deternining with a AC voltmeter to see if supply voltage is across the terminals in pump out mode. If voltage is present and motor does not spin - the motor is open circuit and must be replaced. Remove the 2 clamps and the 2 electrical push on terminals with the MAINS voltage disconnected. Is the outlet pipe not blocked or obstructed ?

SHU43 running constantly

Intrrnal leak into base of appliance will make drain pump run constantly.
If appliance fills then dumps water with drain punp then keeps filling/draining sequence then the flow meter could de faulty.
