DVD Recorder stuck on "loading"

A DVD was put into the DVD drive (possibly pushed closed before the automatic tray pulled it in). The screen flashed "loading" and continues flashing "loading". The machines power switch does not turn it off, it responds to no buttons either on the front nor on the hand controller(ie does not change from DVD to HD to Video). After being unplugged for a day the result is the same. I have manually removed the DVD but still the machine flashes Loading. It will load a Video tape but spits it out again after a few moments. I took the case off (when unplugged) and disconnected the power to the DVD drive. Still no change. The machine is about 18 months old. Any ideas?

Exact same problem... I left for a few weeks and when I came home the unit was flashing and the screen said "loading"... Possibly a hard drive crash??? Please help...

  • kevin912 Jan 23, 2009

The unit spontaneously (no control touched, no action scheduled, etc)
went from Off (standby) to a "LOADING" mode, and remains there. In
this Loading mode, the text "LOADING" displays continuously and the
blue light across the top of the display area flashes on and off about
1/sec., also continuously. Repeatedly unplugged for various periods up
to two minutes - when replugged, same Loading mode returns. Internal
HDD seems to make no sounds different from regular spin-ups - when
replugged, the usual barely audible clicks and whirring.

If this were a PC with almost any OS, I'd suspect a boot sector failure
    - except, it wasn't booting up - it developed spontaneously, while in
standby (off). Maybe some other hardware failure?

    Any thoughts?

I'm really annoyed with my machine. Like you say - great when it works but temperamental! Don't want to throw it away till I know it's dead though. Just keeps flashing Loading.

I have the same problem. Flashing light ON when using DVD and nothing is happening.

  • smiffycom Apr 16, 2009

Mine is exactly the same, although the "loading" text is intermittent.. mine sometimes says loading.... when powered up the dvd light is lit in white and sorta flickers at 3-5 second intervals and the HDD and VHS light are lit in red... and I no longer have the clock display.

A friend of mine (electronics whiz) reckons the power supply in the unit sounds like it has failed.

I'm a bit miffed at it really as it cost nigh on £700 when it was new, and to be honest, all I have burnt is 12 (at the most) DVD's. and the HD contains some footage I can never get again...

Grrr, if theres no easy(bnot to expensive) fix, then I wont be buying JVC again.

The Problem You People are having is a failure on the Power Supply,it will cost about 75€ to have it fixed here in Germany,if you can remove the Power supply yourself (Not that hard,4 Screws) and only ship the power supply it will coast around 55€ with 1 Year guarantee, thats what I did with mine, works like a charm again.Greets Jack

That's exactly the same problem as I have, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Used to solve it by turning off at the plug and restarting. Now won't load up at all though. I love the machine - when it works - it just isn't very often!

Dvd won't eject. It lights up flashing like wants to open. I tried to eject dvd every way possible ie., computer link, etc

All CD / DVD drives have a Eject Pin Hole. The only thing we need is a paper clip to use it

krishtam1_dh_8.jpg
All we have to do is bend it at the first curve 180 degrees (straitening it out). Then take the second curve and bend it 90 degrees. Now we need to locate the Eject Pin Hole.

krishtam1_dh_9.jpg
Laptop - Notebook CD / DVD drives:
The trays on laptops/notebooks are spring loaded, so all that is needed is to release the locking mechanism. You do not have to insert the paper clip as far as with a desktop CD / DVD drive, as you are not connecting to the gearing under the tray. Gently insert the paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole. Once you feel it make contact, gently push in and the tray will eject immediately. Once done, gently push the tray back inward until it locks back into place.

krishtam1_dh_10.jpg

Desktop CD / DVD drives:
Gently insert the modified paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole until you feel it make contact with the gear underneath the tray. Firmly pressing inward, you will notice the tray to start to move out. Press inward until you have enough room to get your finger under the tray and then pull it out the rest of the way. If you can only get a small portion of the tray out, you can use the other end of the paper clip to gently pry open the tray enough to get your finger under it. Once done, gently push back the tray to the closed position. It will close firmly when the system is powered up.

Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo DVD tray is stuck in open position. Pressing close button results in slight jerking motion of tray followed by display of "close", then "load" ...

There is typically a small rubber belt or plastic gear that goes between the tray motor and the tray. Most modern units have the plastic gear. I would bet that it is missing a tooth or stripped its teeth or possibly fell off completely. You should be able to manually push the drawer in. To open it, there should be a small hole near the tray into which you can push a straightened-out paper clip.

Good luck!

LG RH1757 (80 GB) DVD Recorder / HDD Recorder Drawer keeps opening Drawer keeps opening and closing and won't read discs! Rassie from Cape Town South Africa

Could be a timing issue with the tray mechanism - possible that somebody has given the tray "a shove" to make it close instead of using the open/close button and has put the timing out.or a worn tray loading belt

I have an RCA DVD/VHS combo with TVG. The DVD

This is a work-around rather than a solution. We put an audio CD in the tray and after closing the tray the unit begins to play the music. After waiting a few seconds we open the tray and quickly substitute a DVD and it loads OK. We had also tried cleaning the player to no avail. The CD approach is a pain but it does allow us to play DVDs. Jim

I can't load /unload DVD disk

This could be due to one of several reasons. It may be that the tray is stuck inside the rail. OR it may that the tray drive motor be faulty. You can check by putting your finger on the tray front and pushing the open button: if there is a faint vibration then a click then this is a tray jam. If no vibration is felt then the drive motor is faulty. You state that pushing the button displays OPEN so it seems that the button is ok. Now if the tray is stuck what you can do is open the drive mechanism, check whether there is a rubber band which is involved in opening or closing. Replace that band with a new one from an electronics store. Also clean and grease the rail with alcohol. Please note that ONLY ATTEMPT it if you are familiar with opening drives and are out of warranty. If you are not easy then you'll have to go to a technician. AND if the motor is faulty this would also require soldering.

Door will not open

I had a similar problem, I went back in and opened it up, took the top plate that covers the lens, opened the tray, put the plate back on, then closed the tray and it works again. With the tray closed, I think I put the top plate on the bottom piece and it was stuck on.

All you can do is the usuall checks:- try, go to my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and go down the list to cd/dvd drives, click on the '+' and right click on your listed drive and select uninstall. restart the pc and then the drive will be re installed with drivers automatically. if it still won't eject then there is a drive fault.
