Question about Refrigerators
Did anyone get the letter and check in the mail from LG because of Energy Efficiency issues with the LG French Door fridge? The letter says that if you cash the check - they are no longer liable. I am wondering if anyone knows of a lawsuit or any other details related to this? I have the LG LFX21960ST French door refrigerator, infact the first one purchased on 12/12/06 had so many defects, it was replaced by LG(I wanted a full refund) on 5/31/07 with the same model. The major problem was the ice maker which I was told was completely fixed in the new fridge and would never be a problem again. By 10/6/07, the ice maker stopped working again - I wanted a full refund but only got a service call to replace ice maker and fan. Now on 12/30/08 I received the letter and check for $64.25 as related to the energy efficiency issue. I do not believe the refrigerator was ever designed to meet the DOE requirements at the time it was released for sale. Any change of the requirements after the design date by the DOE would be ex post facto and LG should not be liable for specs subsequent to their design date. Thus, there is a smoking gun if LG is handing out money. This is prime
My check for $ 16,- also said "Accepted as Full and Final Satisfaction of All Claims" despite LGs promise to make payments every year for the additional energy use. They never informed me that my fridge does not meet the "Energy Star" requirements. I won't cash this check and will wait for a class action law suit. I bought an appliance because I believed that I was doing something for the environment and then its like "sorry, you bought an environmentally unfriendly product and that you are destroying our environment but we will pay you $ 16,- to relieve your bad consciousness"

Has anyone accepted the offer to "fix" the problem with this frig. According to them the fix is replacing a computer board. Does this sound like a fix or a patch and is it a recommended option.
