Your product must be accidently set to copy mode instead of fax mode and when it is, it actually expects a document to be loaded in the tray to "scan/copy" so change to fax mode again and try to sent the document. This should fix your problem.
If you do want to make a copy, make sure a doc. is loaded and press start copy to do so.

Dear As the model is not mentioned its difficult to right solution. But in general when a document sent from memory some times this happen. This is frequent if memory recieved is more and not printed. Its cleared on printing all memory recieved or memory cleared(all received fax will deleted). Also sending fax manually may be done.I.e.Dial the fax no.get the fax tone load the document press start or send. Also in setting the scanning resolution may be minimised up to150/200dpi for less memory. Thanks.
Receiving Documents in Memory While Performing Another Task or When a Problem Occurs If your fax is performing another task or encounters a problem when receiving a document, it automatically stores the unprinted pages in memory, and the LCD displays MEMORY> as well as one or more messages. For an explanation of the message(s) and details on the action to take, see page 64. If you would like for me to send you the user manual, please send me an email to LBrown18062@hotmail.com Put CANON FAX JX200 as the subject and I will send it to you right away.
1 Load the document face up into the Document Tray. 2 Dial the receiving party's fax number. 3 Press [Start/Copy]. The fax begins sending. Note If an error occurs during sending, the fax beeps intermittently for a few seconds and an error message appears on the LCD. If this happens, correct the problem and then press [Stop], then try sending the document again. The fax automatically redials if the receiving party does not answer or if the line is busy.
You are right about that. The messages are indeed sitting in memory. Here's the procedure to print them out. Step1: Press the memory reference button in the one touch speed dial panel Step 2:Press the search keys(arrow keys under the one touch dialing panel)until the option "print document" is highlighted and then press SET. Step 3:Press the search keys again to select the transaction ID of the document you wish to print and then press SET. Step 4:Press # to print the whole document or * if you wish to print only the first page.
do you have a seperate fax line? if so check the fax line.
also in the fax menu set up your fax to phone/fax mode, and set up all your fax info.
if you have distinq ring you need to set up your # of rings.
