it is the cam position sensor...the telltale sign of the failure is that it happens when the vehicle is warm and has been driven for a while. Sensor is about 40 bucks at the auto parts store, make sure the replacement sensor is metal, not plastic. The main symptoms of this sensor failing are rough starts, rough idling and not starting at all especially when warm.
Problems with Nissan 2005 Altima include-Crank shaft position sensor with ECU reset, ECU Factory reset from Dealer, Low Fuel pressure requiring fuel pump replacement, Replacement of ignition coils causing misfire during start-Catalytic Converter Recall-Oxygen sensor on exhaust-Leaking Valve cover gasket-Radiator failure due to plastic top & Bottom (Constantly adding water to reservoir?)
When ever your using fans, heat or air It requires more power to operated through system, more demand on engine. If has been idling rough, the a/c has nothing to do with the rough idle problem so much, as it just puts more demand on engine, to lower idle, I would check have fuel injection cleaned, possibly air filter and oxygen sensor replaced. Let me know, if this has helped. Thanks mike from fixya.com
If you also have rough idle or inconsistent idling as well you may need the IAC valve checked. Some of the shops would let you borrow their scanner, see if you can retrieve error codes, the error codes would help you accurately identify the part that may be going bad.
a code 12 means no G or Ne signal to the ecu im put side for at least 2 seconds that code is ground (G) so it is an open or short to ground on the ECU threw the STA circuit
