Touch pad will move curser but wont click
SOURCE: how to clean inspiron 1525 touch pad
Hi there.
The touchpad itself is easy to clean but if the liquid has got into the left and right click keys you may have a problem, a warm soapy partially dry cloth will take the residue off the touchpad but the soda may have got to the circuit board causing it to be slow to react.
To clean the left and right keys and under the touchpad you have to take the laptop apart, remove the keyboard and the front cover and clean under that where you can get under the left/right click keys and the ribbon cable of the touchpad.
This type of job is not for the novice and i would advise having a technician do it whether it's in or out off warranty, preferably Dell themselves.
Other than that the best option would be to buy a wireless or wired mini mouse which are much easier to use than the touchpad itself.
Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Hey!
What operating system are you running? All I could find was a manual for your model: http://tinyurl.com/6gc7pl
If you are using Windows XP, you might try going to Control Panel -> Mouse -> On the first tab (Buttons) check "Switch primary and secondary buttons." then hit "Apply".
Try left-clicking (currently assigned to be the right-click) on your Start button and see if the menu with "Explore All Users" on the very bottom opens. If it does, then your touchpad is most likely defective and would have to be fixed (www.fixmyacer.com). If the menu doesn't come up, then it is a software issue and is 100% fixable.

Try Fn+F7 to reenable the touchpad. Might have been disabled by mistake.

It's a software issue with the driver, and Vista. I had this problem on my Acer notebook, and I fixed it by doing the following:
1) Goto "Control Panel -> System"
2) Click on "Device Manager"
3) Goto "Mice and other pointing devices"
4) Uninstall what you see there and select "Delete driver file for this device"
5) Click OK and restart your computer
6) After reboot, it'll have installed Microsoft's default ps/2 mouse driver (which works fine except for the scroll).
7) Goto "Start -> Control Panel -> Mouse"
8) An error will pop up saying something about Synaptics driver not found. Just click "Yes"/"OK" to kill it off for good, and restart again if needed.
9) After reboot, your problems should be solved.
Optional:
If you want scrolling and other functionality back with your Synaptics touch pad, download and install the Synaptics Touchpad Driver 9.1.11.0 here:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Others/Synaptics-Touchpad-Driver-91110.shtml
If it screws up again with this driver, just kill it with the steps above, and just use the default Microsoft driver until Windows 7 comes out, or switch to Linux (which ever you decide to do first).
