Are there 2 slots for ram do you have 1 mem card or 2
if you have one you have to make sure its in the right slot and seated properly.
if one check that its seated properly ....reboot
if nothing remove and reseat in other slot..reboot

try to boot regardless of what may or may not happen .if you see no response for a while press and hold down power button.remove power lead then remove battery for less than a minute.reinsert the battery and reconnect the power lead boot and try to access bios . in bios reset to default and exit..see if pc boots now ...before it will boot it will read mem and install to bios if all goes well.whilst youre in bios you might want to study if theres any method in bios that should be activated first.

f*** me Ive only just noticed its a tower.Towers are a doddle.

ok take off the cover to access mother board.

remove vga (pci)from housing.(unless you use onboard vga)

    remove mem cards.

remove rtc battery.rtc looks like a large digal watch battery.

make sure you have your hd in first available connector on lead.if you have spare hd fit this on the second connector on same lead.

this way bios will read first disk c: then 2nd d: then cd/dvd e: f: if another and so on...card readers, usb plug ins etc...

re house vga(make sure tight and secure with retainer screw.

re insert mem (if theres only 2 slots dont matter which order you put them.replace rtc.

connect monitor lead and boot up.

if the hd has not been reformatted yet due to probs you should now get a response at least to be able to reformat and install new os.

if you have extra/spare hd this also can be formatted and either os can be installed or can be used for storage.

if it seems progress was made replace cover.

if you get to the format disk stage let me know for any details.

if you still have prob I'll send you spotmau.

but I think by removing rtc(to reset bios)when booted system should detect mem now and load it.

    anyway keep me posted...

    ok not so technical...

    remove cover...

look at back of pc where the moniter plugs in..this is ur vga card...remove it...

look on motherboard for a disk type battery (rtc) it maybe covered or in housing.its about the size of ur thumbnail...

remove it about 1 min then replace...

    replace vga...

    boot up

enter bios..( this is setup, screen shows which key to press to enter)

    in bios select default settings..

    save and exit..

on bootup bios should detect mem

as far as Im aware youve formatted your hd(yes?)

so being that theres no os installed is the reason why your monitor says no signal so dont worry about that for now .have you tried to install os (xp or vista?)

if not try it it may kick the ram into action.

My inspiron dell 570 desktop, turns on but will not show anything on screen, I have connected to another moniter issue keeps happening, when this started I first use to get a frozen screen then blue...

If the Dell 570 has a built-in video card on the motherboard then the problem could be a faulty video RAM. Built-in video card use shared RAM (uses part of the main RAM module) and the RAM could be faulty.
First try re-seating the RAM module/s if this still does not fix the problem then remove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the RAM for you.

When I turn on the laptop, the display lights up but nothing is seen and not responding to anything.

This could be a couple of things, but first I would start by replacing the RAM, if there is a cover on the underneath of the laptop for the RAM open it up and there should be 2 sticks, carefully remove one and try rebooting, if that does not work replace the one with the one you took out and try that.

Let me know how you get on

Hello, Can I install a 512MB DDR DIMM, N mem stick taken out of my Dell Desktop into a Toshiba Satellite A15, S129 laptop? Thanks, RD

You can try, without fear of having your laptop "blow-up".

Turn your laptop off.

Remove the battery.

Physically, does the RAM fit into the RAM slot? If not, the answer is 'no' -- most "desktop" RAM is much bigger than most "notebook" RAM.

If it fits, connect the AC power, and turn the computer on.
If it beeps wildly, or does not beep at all, the RAM is incompatible.
Disconnect the AC power.

Remove the RAM.

Re-insert the "old" RAM.

Re-insert the battery.

Reconnect the AC power.

Do a Google-search for "RAM upgrade Satellite A15" to find sellers that sell compatible RAM.

Laptop Won't Boot

Vaios are prone to faulty Ram ( memory Slots ) The only suggestion i can offer.
Is to remove and re-seat the CPU. this ocassionally solves the problem. if the laptops been dropped or banged. the cpu may have worked loose. but you,ll be looking at either ram or processor. failing this you can assume that theres a motherboard fault.

Thankyou For using Fixya.

Wont start up after ram upgrade

Try reseating the memory and if that doesn’t work, install the 512’s one at a time to see if one might be defective. If the laptop still won’t turn on, reinstall original memory and see if laptop powers on.

Dell inspiron 8500

Sounds like the incorrect RAM (SUPPORTS PC2100 AND PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs) for that laptop. Also try re-seating the RAM in the socket and that is not installed backwards (hard to do , but I've seen it)
