The shaft on my Delta floor mdoel press drill keeps sliding out

The shaft on my Delta floor mdoel press drill keeps sliding out. I tried tapping it back up but it will go up as far as it is able to but still slips out. Any ideas on how to get it to stay in?

This sounds like a morse taper adaptor. if so look at the taper for any unusual wear. if none what I would do is get something like brake clean or similar product to remove all oil and grease. clean the shaft and the internal socket. wipe off with cleam paper towel after cleaning. retract the chuck jaws to prevent damage to the chuck and align the tang on adaptor with the internal socket. Take a piece of wood and hammer and hit the chuck seating the taper. You can also try using the table with a block of wood and the feed handle to seat it. If it continues to fall you have worn parts that need replaced. Good luck

How to change belt on 17-990x delta drill press

You've probably already tried looking for set screws on the pulleys, both the pulleys that attach to the spindle and the pulleys on the motor shaft, to remove both/either sets of pulleys and allow replacing the belt. I didn't mean to restate the obvious; I'm just brainstorming. I've restored a few old machine tools, and I've found that removing pulleys often requires the use of gear pullers. This is due to slight mushrooming of the ends of the shaft due to heating or hammering. I have even had to file the end of the shaft in one case to reduce the diameter before I could remove the pulley. Also, based on your picture, you might be able to remove the entire motor from its mounting to allow replacing the belt. read more at

Need replacement pulley for a Delta DP350

I have a $14 fix for your dead Delta DP 350
My Delta DP 350 died as well...the Reeves pulley disintegrated....
I found a real beefy adjustable drive pulley on eBay called a ' Congress Drive'

All I did was bore it out to .5880" ( just picked a drill bit closest to that size ) on my friends drill press... I opened it up to a small diameter and locked it in place with the set screws on it.... I used the speed knob on the press to adjust the belt tension..... works perfectly !!!!! And these drives are available, rugged, and cheap... $14...... email me with any questions...... Bill

How do you remove the chuck from a Delta shopmaster 350 bench top drill press?

there is a "drift pin" that came with the tool, you would need to insert it into the slot and tap on it.

I checked with multiple suppliers and Delta website There must be a problem with the pricing the bench base is over $800.00 and the floor base is over $900.00
Here is a link to delta's parts.

Two suggestions
1 I would call delta at 1-800-223-7278 and see if they have an error in their parts book
2 If your base is just broken I would find a local welding shop and have it fixed

Thanks for using Fixya.

How do you remove the chuck in a delta hollow chisel mortiser?

It is probably a Morse taper fitting. Open the top cover and see if the driven shaft is hollow. If so, obtain a steel rod that will pass through the hollow shaft and allow it to drop to the bottom. The solid rod will knock out the taper fitting after several hard taps. Be prepared to catch the chuck as it loosens. Hope this helps!

The spindle with the chuck attached keeps falling out of my drill press. I can push the spindle (arbor shaft) up into the machine, but it later falls down. How do I fix this?

get something like brake clean and spray both parts the shaft and internal socket and then wipe with a paper towel. Next put the shaft into the socket and "tap" into place with a block of wood on the drill chuck with the jaws retracted. You might have to "tap" a little hard if you know what I mean but this will seat the tapers and you should not have a problem for a while.

Drill Presses Models

When shopping for a drill press, you'll have to choose between two basic models: 1. Bench-top drill presses mount directly to a workbench or on their own stands. Their compact size makes bench-top models good choices for small shops. 2. Floor-model drill presses usually have more powerful motors, more attachments/accessories and greater material handling capacities than bench-tops. The extra versatility makes floor models good choices for serious DIY and commercial shops.
