Look for the following setting. right click on the desktop (WINDOWS XP) select properties.

2.) Select screen saver
3.) Select Power
This will provide you with options for stopping your monitor from shutting down etc also from hibernating and going into sleep mode.

If you pc is overheating say the fan is not working this will also cause the computer to reboot. If that is the case you will have to replace the defective fan

I lose my modem access code every time I leave my computer for an hour or so, why?

Open Device Manager and locate the modem/network card. Under Power Management of the particular device, disable the option to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Leaving the power on should prevent the modem/network card from disconnecting.

My ps3 keeps telling me that it can't find the ip address. i'm using a wireless router in my house nut it still won't connect? Got any troubleshooting ideas?

Turn off the modem and turn off the router. Remove the cords (Ethernet cords) Turn off your PS3, let it sit for 2 minutes then attempt again. If still does not work. If you can directly connect from the modem to computer if it works then press and hold in the reset button on the router for 15 seconds and release it. If it still doesnt work then issue with the modem. After you released the router, wait 1 minute. Turn it off, leave it unplugged so it can fully discharges (15seconds) then turn back online and attempt again.

My dell ispiron 530 intel core 2 keeps restarting

Please try the following

1) Go into the bios screen and then leave and see if the PC restarts. if it does it is the PSU that will need to be changed

2) If stopping one core stops the restarrting then unfortunatley its the porcessor that is faulty, it may just need a sprong clean i.e. remove and blow of any dust/particles etc or the processor itslef may need to be replaced

Please can i ask that you leave feedback and vote if this has been useful

GT5220 won't turn on

My motherboard was replaced twice by the gateway people. Luckily I bought it at costco and it has a two year warranty through them because gateway didn't want to deal with me until costco techies made them. I have the same model and had the same problem

Computer sleep mode

Turn it off at night or if you leave it for an extended period. It still uses power even in sleep mode, plus the longer Windows runs, the more chance of corruption.

Hi Tracy!

Okay, there are a variety of reasons why this might happen but the best way to find out is to simply take out the battery but leave the AC adapter plugged in then turn on your computer.

-IF THE COMPUTER TURNS ON: then youre in luck. kinda. your new batter is a dud and you should get a free replacement from whomever you purchased it from.

-IF THE COMPUTER DOES NOT TURN ON: it is most likely the A/C cable. These can be bought online from the HP site or cheaper on Ebay. Although the AC cable is the most likely reason, please keep in mind it might also be a number of other not-quite-so-easy to fix problem.

Computer will not start past safe mode screen

In safe mode, hit start button -run, and type "msconfig" in the box , hit enter.
the system configuration utility opens.
select startup tab at the top
when the startup screen opens, UNcheck all the boxes, press APPLY, then OK
the computer will prompt you to restart, when it restarts it will give you a message saying you have use the system configuration utility to change the way windows starts, this is normal. Check the box that say dont show this again and click OK.
doing this will keep the programs set to start when windows starts from starting untill you start them manually. If one of them is causing the freeze, this will make the system accessible.
Keep in mind, you may want to turn some of them back on after you get the computer going and when you do , turn them on one at a time and restart the computer after each change. this way you can identify which program is causing the problem.
Hope this helps. please repost if you have more questions

My acer asipre 7720 series laptop keeps turning itself off with out warning

I have the same issue, I think it has to do with the computer overheating. The only way I have found to avoid this is to lower the power setting to normal usage, and to leave space between the back bottom vents and the surface the computer is placed on.

This is kind of like sticking a band-aid on a gaping wound though.

Dell Dimesion 9200

it could be the corrupted OPERATING SYSTEM
to be sure
turn off the system
when you power it on start tapping F2 key
it will go in syatem setup
leave the system and monitor if it turns off or restarts
if it doesn't get your operating system reinstalled
and if it does restarts of shuts down we have to troubleshoot further
provide me your system's service tag located at the bottom pannel of your system, turn it upside down you will find a bar coded sticker which has a 7 digit alphanumeric number
