Question about Hitachi 53SDX89B 53" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No power i connected a speaker to both tv and external amplier when i hooked up my karaoke. i did this before reading the manual and i did not see the caution sign at the back of the tv that says "use 80 ohm speakers only". it was working ok until it just lost power. the green lights on the board are still on. the fuse does not look busted. can i fix the problem myself? if it needs professional service, how much would it cost and is it worth it? i purchased the tv from a friend a year and a half ago and i don't know how long she've had it. i did not have any audio or video problem prior to this. thanks, linda

Re: no power

MOST LIKEKY BLEW THE AUDIO AMP IC/IC's. Also a small micro fuse or fusible resister opened or burnt as well over in the power supply board. The IC/IC's are $5-$10 bucks a piece, resister or fuse about $.50 to $2. Repair should run about $80 to $150 deending on locatoin your in. Shop around!

Make sure TV is not muted.Make sure the TV is not set to SAP (secondary audio protocol)Make sure TV input is correct (someone may have accidentally pressed the "aux" input button or similar causing the TV to use an input with no sound going to it)Make sure there is not a pair of headphones connected to the TV audio out jack on the side or front of your TV.Check all of the cables that are connected into the back of your TV. (it is possible the TV was moved slightly and a cable has become disconnected or loose)If you have a receiver or surround sound connected to your TV, turn it on and see if you get sound coming from the external speakers.Turn off the TV, cable box, and anything else connected to the TV. Sometimes turning everything off and then back on can fix the problem. If using an "S" video cable into an input on the back of your TV, these cables carry no sound, just video, so make sure you connect an audio cable too.Hook up an external device to the "TV audio out" input. This will be the test to see if it is a TV circuit board malfunction or the speakers are faulty in your TV.If you are connected to a satellite box, use the included remote and go into the "menu". Check to make sure sound settings are set correctly.

Just wondering if it is possible to hook up a pair of external speakers??? What cords do I need and where to plug them in... thanks

External speakers typically need a power source to run them, like a stereo or surround system.....AND this source is typically not from the tv, but rather the cable box.

I plugged my external hard drive into my sony wega kdf55E200 using the usb port I have power to the external hard drive the light is on. But I cannot get a picture on my tv what can I do

Your TV is very unlikely to be able to read the external drive. The USB connection on most TVs are meant to view pictures and lack the ability to navigate file systems and read most file formats. Your best bet is hook the hard drive up to a computer or a video game system (PS3 and Xbox360 do this) and then hook that computer or game system to the TV.

How do i hook 2 extra speakers into the back of my big screen?

on the back of the TV you should have an AUDIO OUT red and white connection for RCA jacks if you have speakers that have that connection the only thing you have to do is get into the TV menu and select sound options then turn on either Variable output or it will say external speakers ON/OFF

I hooked up my stereo amp to my external speakers that were also still hooked up to my tv. now I don't get any audio from my tv just a high pitch sound. Is this an easy fix?

Hi, I can help. It sounds like the TV internal speakers were turned off so that the only speakers to have sound were the external ones. Go to your menu and find the sound area. There you can tell the TV to send sound to the internal speakers once again and not to external.

Adding external speakers

I think you will need to run the tv audio outputs out to an amp (inputs) and have the speakers connected to the amp! the TV does not have enough power to make the speakers work! but will send the signel out to the amp and in turn power the speakers!

Turn the speakers to ON

No I am not using a hdmi input. This problem exists within the unit itself. I am unable to manually turn on the Televisions internal speakers. they are currently set to off and are not highlighted within the menu to be able to turn them back on. I hope this helps. thank you!

No volume

On the back of your set there are 2 switches that tell the tv whether you are using the internal speakers or the external speakers.
Make sure the switches are set to internal so the speakers in the TV receive the sound signals. If they're set to internal maybe the internal speakers are bad. Set the switches to external and hook up external speakers to the speaker terminals on the back of the TV. If neither setup works then it sounds like an output transistor or related parts.

Zenith projection tv model number r50w46

I read in the manual that you can turn the speakers off using the menu command when you connect up an external stereo system. You might want to check if this menu command inadvertantly was set to off. good luck
