The ground wire is mounted to my fuel pump ground in the base of my trunk. If the ground was lose wouldn't the amp power light turn off?

The protection light does not flash or come on. I have had the amp for 10 years now and that light would always turn on when it got hot.

The crossover that is in it now it the SWX. I do not think this was the original crossover that it came with. I thought I had one go bad on me when I first bought the amp years ago so that was my first guess as to why it seems to shut off and on.

    sounds like a loose wire.

But please check all of the following and re-post....

Positive wire & post at battery tight?

Main power wire Fuseholder Secure to wire @ battery?

Ground for amplifier sanded & tight?

Positive, Ground, and 12V turn on wire all secure at amplifier terminal?

Any indicator lights (protection) on the amplifier coming on?

SOURCE: kicker zr240 amp

I doubt it is loose solder sure it is just a bad connction between that junk crossover and the even crappier amp. Try just cleaning the connection points with rubbing alcohol or something and see if that works...if not, try building up the flat male side of the connection with a tiny hint of solder and force it to connect...if that doesnt fix your problem...throw that POS away and buy a real amp!

Sounds like one or more of the output transistors have gone and the amp protects itself from any further damage.

Tuning my Kenwood 1000watt and also a Kicker zr240 for best sound

It all depends on the type of music you listen to. I fyou listen to music that consistently produce low frequency sound then you would want to enhance those frequencies with an EQ and reject unwanted tones with your crossover network. It is all personal preference though. If you think it already sounds good then why mess with it.

My kicker zr240 powers up but its no sound coming out the amp the guts of the amp looks fine

it could be your input section on your amplifier were you rca jacks go in but you should check and make sure it aint your cd player out put on your rca jacks the easy way to check this is with a meter and a cd playing in your cd player turn your meter on volts usually your out put on rca 2.5v some cd players put out 5v so take your postive tester needle and stick it in the inside part of your rca jack and take negative tester needle and touch the outerside of the rca jacks and see if you get any reading if do that good on that part but on your amp no it could be in the input section of your amp it could be as simple as a burnt trace wire on the bottom circuit board or a op amp chip theirs alot in a amplifier but you can test them with a meter to find out witch one bad but i would take it to some one that work on amplifiers if you dont know how to test them

    Kicker zr240 amp

yup your problem is most likely the solder joints have vibrated loose. dont use it till you resolder all the solder joints on the mosfets and the bigger transistors on the board.

    Kicker amp shutting off

hello my friend you should have the input signal set to 500 miliamps do not go over, another thing is that if you have good ground and the battery is good and it has the sufficient amps to push it.also the ohms of your spkrs are not too low,you need to check all that.

    good luck
