There are no jumpers on any of the pins - I have no way of knowing how it has been set - it is as Acer supplied it. I dont think they expect you to fiddle with it - it is sold as "preconfigured"

My OS is OEM ready installed so no CD - its Vista Home premium 64 bit - as muchas I know

I has tried arresting the boot set up to check bios - no disk is seen in bios.

Its either a faulty disk (brand new?) or worse a faulty construction - bad esata cable or something.

Thanks for advice. I dont know where to go next. Return the whole machine I guess...

If the drive is not your primary drive is it set as "slave" Check the jumper on the device rear. Also it may need to be formatted for your computer to recognize the space. You can do this by booting up with your OS CD
Let me know if this helps

What does insert removable media mean

Your computer is waiting for you to insert a memory card or USB flash drive (something that can be removed from your computer). If you weren't about to do so then you had done something to make your computer expect removable media, such as clicking on a drive icon in "My Computer."

On boot up it says check cable connection then says no bootable device --insert boot disk and press any key

First check to see if you have any removable media plugged in such as flash drives or cdroms. If nothing else is plugged in and it still shows that error, the problem could be with a faulty hard drive. If your computer is still under warranty, try contacting Acer to get a replacement.

Whenever i turn my acer aspire one series on it say no boot disk insert boot disk and press any key

Enter BIOS menu and ensure your Boot Priority has your hard drive as the main Drive (Once you turn your computer on there should be instructions on the bottom of the screen on what to push to enter your BIOS). Also try removing any removable media (Thumb Drive, CD's or USB related devices) before starting your computer.

Want to know how to get photos from my Acer desktop to my Aspire One

With the use of a USB flash drive.
Insert USB drive into Acer Desktop and copy the photos onto it by selecting the photos you want and then right clicking copy. Navigate to USB drive in My Computer, open location of USB removable drive, then right click paste. Wait for the files to copy.
Then right click the safe to remove icon at the bottom right hand corner of your screen (it should be near the system time). Select safe to remove.

Now insert the flash drive into your Aspire One and navigate to removeable flash drive in My Computer. Double click on it. Then select the photos you would like to copy, right click copy, then navigate to location where you would like to store it, right click, paste.
Thats it.
Please rate this solution.
Thanks

How to replace Acer Aspire 5630 Hard Drive

The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,

I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.

Transcend Usb says please insert a disc when i try to open

PatKam covered the basics,

Couple other things to check. You may have been clicking the wrong removable drive. If you have a camera, MP3 player or have a media card reader in your computer they can all show up as "Removable Device" but will give you that message if you try to open them without a chip in them.

When you look in My Computer if there is more than one removable drive listed you may have to use the guess and check method trying each to see if that's the USB drive.

If you are sure you're looking at the right drive and still getting that message then refer to Pat's message above and try data recovery software for a DIY solution or send it to a company like Armor-IT Data Recovery which is listed in the directory of FixYa or can be found by searching their name on google.

Hope one of these ideas helps out,

Chris

I don't know how to download my work on to my usb

Plug in your usb
Go to my computer
Then you will see portable device or the brand name of your USB
Double click that

Next find your work where it is located.
Pull the USB window that you just got to and the window where all your
work is save and click and drag from your work window to the USB window.
