Sony MHC-RV888D Tape Recording to LAPTOP - How to connect?

Hi, I am using Sony MHC-RV888D. I need to record the TAPE to my laptop as mp3. I have all the right softwares in laptop to capture sound coming in. I am connecting VIDEO/SAT OUT L/R jacks (red and white colour) to my laptop's microphone jack. when I play the TAPE, the tape plays as I hear it in the speakers and some mp3 file seems to be generated but when I play that file on laptop then no sound. Am I making some wrong connections? This problem seems to have eaten my brain....Someone please help me in completing this function. What are the other options to convert TAPE into MP3 using this music system? Thanks

You have to connect the S-VIDEO output of the device to your laptop via s-video - usb cable , if they do not have a cable like that than you might as well use an adapter from s-video to usb, if u have your hands on one.
the second method is to hook up a audio recorder from the speaker output, and use a volume controller witch steps down the speaker output so you can plug the cable directly to your laptop microfone output..
good luck!

You can get a phone monitoring add on that will give better results. It would be more expensive than a tape recorder.

How to burn a Cd

The Sony MHC-BX2 can record from a CD to a cassette tape. This model doesn't have a CD burner. The manual for the MHC-BX2 is available from Sony support: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=MHCBX2&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=manuals#/manualsTab . See page 12 of the PDF.

If your unit is a different model, please post a comment with that model number. I wish that I had better news for you.

(on those shelf systems that can burn a CD, place a blank CD-R or CD-RW (if supported) in the disc tray. Use the function button to set the recording source (Phono with the Croseley units). Place the tape to record in the tape deck and press play reach a point a bit before the desired point to start the recording. (Some also will record from the radio, turntable, or other device. Again start the source playing.) Then press CD Record. Press Stop when you want the recording to stop or when one side of the tape/LP is finished. (Some have a Split Track button if you want to identify every track. Press this during the silent period between songs.) Otherwise, you will get one track per side with tapes/LPs.)

Lines across tape while playing

Hi,

It sounds like either the recording head of your camcorder was dirty when you made the recording, in which case you will need to clean the record head and re-record, or the playback head is dirty.

Either way, you should be able to solve the problem by using an 8mm head cleaner tape which you can buy from the same place you get your camcorder tapes.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Getting a NO TAB when trying to record a tape from another tape.

I would check out the switch that detects the recording tab in the machine. It might have become bent out of shape so it stays open even when a tape presses against it.

Recording from audio tape to laptop

Hi Vincent.

Just use the play out connections on the back ot the deck, and connect them straight to the line in socket on the lappy. Use a RCA stereo to 3.5mm stereo jack connection, levels will be fine. Try audacity as a decent freeware recording program. Woks well, and you can use half decent plugins to tweak the audio. :)

Dubbling cassette tapes

After looking @ the owner's manual online, I can see why you're confused. Man! It shouldn't that tough. You can always tell when the Chinese translate anything into English. If look you closely enough on pages 18 & 19, whenever the directions refer to "manual recording" one of functions that they don't specify is the recording of 1 tape onto another. The way that this manual was written the writer apparently didn't envision that anyone would want to do tape-to-tape (dubbing) recording.

On pg 18 it says to load a recordable (blank) tape into the B side deck. Easy enough. Next comes the tough to discern part.
In section 2 where it mentions "For Manual Recording and Sound Mixing:" Select the desired source to record or mix. In your case that would be the A deck. Here is where they needed to take a little time and explain that tape-to-tape recording is one of those possibilities. Notice that you'll need to place the B deck in standby. Then select the REC PAUSE/START to start the B deck & then (this is another place where they needed to be more clear) you'll need to simultaneously start (press the play button) the A deck which would be the recording source. In the future just remember that the A deck is the source and the B deck is the destination.

Good luck.
