    Hi
    Thank you for the invitation.
We will first run a small diags and check that the system is ok. If the system diags passes then I think we will begin with re installation. Also let me inform you that re installation takes a little bit of time so be patient through the steps as well.

First ran a small diagnostics by pressing FN+ Power button and then turn on the laptop.
It will take you through a series of diagnostics. Follow the prompts.
If this passes let me know. This will make sure that the hard drive, memory, and the system is good and we can begin with OS re installation. Do not worry I will take you through these step by step.

Also please make a note in some of the older dell laptops the Fn+power button does not work. let me know if that is the case.
please posts the results of your diagnostics.

    Thank you
    Rakesh

Thats ok so I believe the HDD and the memory diags have passed and no error codes. Make sure the windows XP CD is there in the drive and turn off your system. Now try this remove battery and ac adapter.Press power button for 10 seconds. then connect only the ac adapter. Here is the link for instructions on how to boot from the CD.

Repair option only when you wanna save the data already there. most of the time does not work but can give it a try. If you are not worried about data loss just continue installing XP.

Delete the old partitions as well

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2009

use ntfs quick as the option in the next screen

  • Anonymous Jan 06, 2009

Now try this remove battery and ac adapter.Press power button for 10 seconds. then connect only the ac adapter. Go to one time boot menu go through xp setup and then delete all partitions and then create a new partition and install xp.

Yes your system should be faster now. Let me know the memory available on the system you can get the information by typing msinfo32 on start run window and click on ok and you can probably upgrade its not that costly.

Thank you for your feedback and I hope that I would be able to help more people like you. This is my first active day in fixya.

    Thank you

Seems like you have the maximum that can be upgraded to.
i would suggest that do not uninstall applications that you do not use often in the laptop. Then it should just work fine.

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2009

Hi which is the wireless card that you have? I can get the drivers for you.

  • Anonymous Jan 07, 2009

I believe you use the CD that did not came with the laptop. Dell Cds are preactivated so they do not ask for the product key. You can also find the product key on the bottom of your laptop if the system came with XP also you can ask dell to ship the media across to you. They will send you the media even if the warranty has expired and media or cds that they send do need a product key as they are all pre activated. If you need help in wireless I can definitely help. Post your gtalk or yahoo meseenger ids. I can take probably a remote connection and get it done for you.

    thank you

Need to reset password for windows 7

Do a web search for reset password windows 7 and you'll find many utilities to do that. You may have to burn the software to a CD using a different machine, insert the CD in the locked machine and run the CD. Some systems aren't set to boot from CD if it's inserted, so you may have to press F12 repeatedly during startup (or another key, usually displayed on the screen during startup) to select the CD as the boot device. Some newer systems can boot from a thumbdrive, so you could try that startup selection too, if you save the download to that device.

I have an Amilo Pro V2035 and when switching on it only display 'BootMGR compressed.' I'v tried to press Ctrl+Alt+Del but nothing has changed. Pliz help me how I can restart the Laptop.

press F12 for boot manager before the screen displays bootmgr compressed.. Sounds like your hard drive may have developed a problem. When you press f12 you should get some startup options.insert your OS CD
go to DOS window and type in your OS drive (usualy C:\)
type in bootrec /FixMbr
then type in bootrec /fixboot
then type in bootrec /rebuildbcd
then type in exit
restart your computer

Hi,
1 step - Reinstall Windows
You need:
a reinstallation disk, which usually comes with your computer
The thing:
Insert the DVD disk
Turn off your PC
Turn it on again
Before Windows logo appears keep pressing F12 or F8 (usually F12), then a boot menu should appear.

Select the option which says to Use a device.
Follow the instructions in the repair.
2 step - Maby it is just the Windows problem, let's have a look:
The thing:
Before startup, keep pressing F12 or F8 and you should see:
1_17_2013_7_56_15_pm.jpgThen click on Troubleshoot and you'll see:
1_17_2013_7_57_30_pm.jpgClick on Refresh your PC.
It should automatically do everything.
*Also, you can click on Reset your PC to restore it to it's original settings.

Dell xps m 1530 my windows freezes on the startup screen i pressed f12 on startup and then chose diagnosis, i then got the error 2000 - 0146 linked to hdd1

This error means that your hard drive needs to be replaced.
If your laptop is still under warranty then you may want to send it for repair.
If it is not under warranty and you want to replace it yourself, then you can just follow some simple steps.

I Have an old HP pavillion model N3410. I am trying to access BIOS or change boot order but it won't let me. I've tried pressing f2 during reboot but it goes straight to normal windows me startup.Also...

Turn the computer off.
Hold down any key on the keyboard, and turn the computer on.
You might get a "keyboard error, press <something> to enter BIOS SETUP".

Also, instead of F2, try F1 or F10 or F11 or F12 or DEL.

During start up, screen goes grey "Startup Repair is checking system for problems.." then it searches for problems for for over 1/2 hour with no solution,

Most likely the machine is looking for drivers for devices. If you are connected the internet, it is probably searching there until it times out. If you still have your motherboard installation disk, put it in the drive and boot from there. This should install any missing drivers. Press F12 during bootup to acess boot options.

Startup with F12

Welcome to FixYa! Delete is the BIOS setup key at POST. F12 is a one-time boot option. Safe mode is accessed by repeatedly pressing the F8 key at the first Windows splash screen. Post again if you have further questions. Steve
