Presario SR1103WM video dead

Presario SR1103WM video is dead. Gives single long beep several times when attempting boot. Purchased PCI video card. How do I disable the onboard video? PC is running XP. I have tried resetting the bios by removing the battery, to no avail. I really don't want to buy a new motherboard! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, pcgeek... the problem is, the video is dead. I cannot see to get into the bios. I was hoping there would be a way to disable the video by jumper or something. Even w/the new card in the machine, it gets the single beep indicating the video is bad. doesn't appear to be seeing the new card.

unit has the original 256mg memory that came w/machine. I'll check for the capacitors. I didn't notice any earlier, but wasn't looking for it. Will check when I get home for work. Thanks for the tip!

Okay, if you go into bios, try to find where the video source is from or disable it from advanced to components to onboard, select disable

okay, you sure its the memory not the video...have you changed the amount of memory or the type

certain memory is at different speeds, but only motherboards can take a certain amount or certain type w/ speeds

oh and are any capacitors popped? they look like cylinders w/ silver on top and colored on the sides if one is there should be white gunk on top of them (and not cooling thermal)

Don't automatically blame the video card. That boot code means memory refresh error. Try reseting your mems. If that fails pull out memory cards one at a time. If one gives the error and the other doesn't, you have your problem. Next, try to reseat the video card more firmly. Last resort, disable to on board video to avoid conflicts. Still think memory u is your best bet.

My compaq presario sr1103wm doesn't boot up it

First of all.. try connecting all your peripheals to your PC.(monitor, mouse, keyboard, mic, speakers, etc)

Then u should open your pc and remove BIOS battery and leave it out for few minutes and put it back in...

if that doesnt work u should remove all your RAMS (memory chips next to processor) carefully and start your PC without them, u should hear some beeps, that okay, just a warning, after that put them back in and start again.

if that doesnt work try changing your hard drive with another one, or just take yours and test it somewhere else.

the last u should check your power supply, i see it starts up and then shuts down.. if your power supply is dead u couldnt even start PC, maybe there is a problem with your power outlet, try changing cables and outlets, if still doesnt work test your power supply on other PC.

if none of this works then u probably have issues with motherboard or processor.. then you should take it to service
:D

My compaq sr1103wm will not power up. Whan you turn it on it starts to boot for about 5 seconds. It just keeps turning on and off on and off on its own. Could this be a power supply problem or...

It could be "sort of" either. If the power supply fan is labouring or stopped, it will overheat very quickly and force a shutdown or blow a fuse. Because of the latter usually this will only happen a few times, and then perminently. If the cpu fan bushings are clogged with jam, and it is labouring, the cpu temps will shoot up and trigger a bios level shutdown. So you need to do some checking, and perhaps some cleaning. Usually if there are motherboard problems, you will get beeping indications of device checks. If there is no picture, then the vga card could be loose...but again, beeping for sure. loose power cord connect or worn - problems, not always a beep here. Check a cables and connections but the first checks are likely the root.

I replaced 2 sticks of ram into a compaq presario sr1103wm pc and now I'm not getting any video display. The computer was working fine before but now there is no video. Everything else seems to be working...

Check your BIOS and reseat your graphics card. If your using onboard graphics then it's likely on of those RAM chips is faulty as it's sharing RAM for your video so try it one stick at a time to see which one is causing it

Your monitors graphics cable is disconnected. Try plugging it into the back of your computer, specifically your graphics card.

That or your monitors power plug is not plugged in.

If it's not either of those, either your monitor is dead or your graphics card is dead.

If your computer is still covered by warranty, call or email Compaq and ask for their assistance. They will be able to fix the problem for free or a very low price. If you do NOT have the warranty, then you may do the following:

This is because the video card you have is corrupted. If the computer won't even turn on from the start and it just beeps, then you need a new or replacement video card.

If windows xp loads, and then the monitor goes blank and the system beeps, try reloading XP again, this time format the entire Hard Drive, and install the Video Card drivers the first thing you do when your system starts.

Take you computer to a repair shop to test the video card and make sure it works. If you have another PC, then take the video card out of the PC and put it in the other (go online if you need help with that). If that doesn't work, then you have a broken video card.

Long flatlined beep when powered on

According to HP your machine should have pheonix codes. So i'm guessing that is very bad :)

Have you tried reseting the bios yet?

How about trying different memory, or just removing any extra memory.

Looks like you will have to TS this one old school. Trial and error.
