Question about Creative Labs Live! Cam Optia Pro Webcam

1 Answer

All connected, but when recording, records a symbol only of an eye and a microphone crossed out ( a no entry symbol) the camera used to work fine, both for video and audio, so i have removed all software, and reinstalled it both on a lap top, and now on my work PC, but the same symbol appears, any thoughts? perhaps the cam is broken.. if i record, the recording is of the symbol on the screen. tThe blue bezel light on the camera flashes on and then off after about 4 seconds only when the camera has just plugged in, where as before, when the camera was recording, the blue bezel light went on. I installed updated drivers but no joy... Many thanks Ben

Normal 0 Did you install the software with the camera connected to the computer? Disconnect the camera from the USB port and reinstall the software. When the program asks you to connect the camera, do so, and it should work. Hope this is of some help. Bud

Below is info for setting up Audio & Video to chat on line after you install , either Skype or a messenger program.

Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

  1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
  4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
  2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
  3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
  3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
  4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video shoud work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
Hope this helps. Bud

Sound noise feedback during recording

Noise can be a big problem when trying to record into a computer. Reducing and canceling out noise using several simple techniques will help increase recording quality and increase your satisfaction with recordings. Solutions range from complete room overhauls to simple changes in the placement of the microphone and other objects in the recording.

Use a stabilized microphone to reduce vibrations. Many hand-held or headset microphones will pick up on vibrations and movements from the user. These vibrations can carry over into the recording and reduce the quality of the recording. Using a microphone stand or stationary microphone will reduce noise while recording. Mic stands will help increase recording quality and off a possible solution that requires very little financial investment. Set up a designated sound room that is set away from the rest of your home. The farther the recording area is from windows and doorways, the better. Windows allow very small amounts of noise to filter in from the outdoors and create white noise in the recording. Hang blankets on the walls around the recording station and use many rough objects in the recording room. Sound travels in waves that bounce back and forth between smooth objects. Blankets and other rough objects will help reduce sound vibrations. These additions to the recording room will reduce ambient sounds from both the room and outside the building by blocking sound waves from bouncing back and forth in the room. If you can make a considerable investment in the room, there are several acoustic products on the market than help nearly eliminate echoes and outside noises. Install software that filters out unwanted sounds and echoes. Many computer applications exist that use programs to increase the quality of recordings and reduce the ambient noise levels in a recording room. Software is used to reduce echoes and feedback in a recording studio. Several free applications can be used to achieve the desired effects when recording. A program called Audacity is one of the most effective software packages that can help reduce noise in recordings. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Software can also be used to reduce electronic humming and other white noise that can be picked up during a recoding session. Buy a high-quality microphone with noise and echo cancellation. One of the best investments that a recording specialist can make is a high-quality mic. The microphone itself can reduce many unwanted noises and echoes in the recording room by filtering the actual sounds that are recorded.

Microphone not working

Go into the sound properties in your control panel and then head into the recording tab. Make sure that the correct recording device is selected. At the bottom there should be a configure or set up button. Once you go through that wizard, it should be set up.

Also some programs allow you to choose which microphone to use, so go into the settings of the software and make sure the correct recording device is selected.

Have a great day.

Im confused

The microphone may not work because of a hardware or configuration problem. To determine if it's a hardware problem, test the microphone in Sound Recorder.

  1. Click "Start," > "Programs" ("All Programs" for Windows XP) > "Accessories" > "Entertainment" > "Sound Recorder."
  2. Click the Record button and speak into the microphone of the camera. You should see the green line move, indicating the application is picking up sound.
  3. Click the Stop button.
  4. Click the Play button. If there is no sound at playback, check to make sure the correct device is selected.
    1. Click "Edit," then "Audio Properties."
    2. Make sure Logitech is listed as the Preferred device for "Sound recording."
The microphone may also be defective. To test this, try the camera on another USB enabled system.
If you can record sound in Sound Recorder, but not in the QuickCam application, try setting the Logitech Microphone as the Preferred device in Audio Properties.
Multimedia Keyboards:
A multimedia keyboard is a keyboard that has a button which can automatically control your computer volume. If you have a multimedia keyboard installed, the software for the multimedia keyboard may need to be uninstalled in order for the camera's microphone to work properly in Windows. Please contact Logitech with the make and model of the multimedia keyboard that is causing the problem. While we will not be able to assist you other than to advise to uninstall the keyboard software, it will help us determine the root cause of the incompatibility.
