Question about Canon PowerShot A70 Digital Camera
My Canon Power Shot A70 turns on just fine. The Canon logo screen appears, then the screen goes blank. I can't see anything. If I press the button to take a picture the flash goes off - it seems like I'm taking a picture, but the screen stays blank. The "picture" I just took does not appear for two seconds either. If I flip to the review mode, nothing appears. If I hold the button at 3 o'clock (one of the four buttons on the back of the camera), the pictures I've taken previously (not the one I've just tried to take) appear. Do you have any thoughts on what might be wrong and how I can fix it? Thanks!
Mine just started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I had downloaded pixes to the computer, went outside to take picture and it started acting up. strange lines appear on the screen, but the codes are all there, and you can view the pictures that are on the card. no, the card is not full, the batteries are fine. I think it has a virus built in to start trouble so we will go buy a new one!

We have just experienced the same issue that others have been reporting regarding the Canon PowerShot A70, so I decided to go on-line and google. The problem: we charged the batteries, placed them into the camera along with the compactflash, turned the camera on and the Canon logo appears fine but the shutter doesn't seem to be open. The display was black except for the menu items that appear. Resolution: connected the camera to the computer using the cable as suggested on this site and the display starting working again. The Internet is a great tool!!!!

I have a power shot A70 camera. If you call technical support they are fixing the black screen issue free of charge including shipping and insurance. They are calling it a ccd issue with the power shot cameras.

I have been having the same problem with the black screen issue for my Canon A70. It was working fine and then I got black screen and no pictures. I just got off the phone with Canon tech support and they realize there is a consistent issue going on here and have agreed to repair with no cost for repair or shipping. Suggest you give them a call. Sorry, I closed out and didn't write down the number.

So you are saying there are existing pictures on the card. Is the card full? Transfer all images off the card if that is what you do. Then try with an empty card.
