I'm having trouble with the automatic transmission .The car runs o.k but, when your driving , you have to shift it manually ( D1 then to D2 then to D3 then when you need it D4) The D4 light stays on all the time no matter what gear I have it in . I can't start going just by putting it in D3. what causes this problem and how can I fix it?
SOURCE: Gear Position light D4 is always flashing irrespective of gear.
This issue is caused by a transmission fault or malfunction, most likely a shift solenoid in the trans has failed or the trans control module has a problem, the trans can be tested for codes that will show what circuit or component of the trans controls is causing the light to stay blinking, have it tested.
SOURCE: Transmission not shifting on its own.
check the shift solenoids by using a OHM METER .the both solenoid connectors has 2 terminals 1 and 2 .take ohm meter measure terminal 1 resistance to body ground it should be 14-30 ohms.if less or more replace it.then number 2 terminal to ground.do both the connectors that you disconnect.they should be 14-30 ohms.if less or more replace them.if they check out good .your valve body in transmission is going have to be removed.

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.
SOURCE: I got a 1994 Honda Accord, the brake light stay on
In some cases the brake light will come on when the rear brake pads are getting worn down to low, check them if they appear to be lacking of enough brake material replace the rear shoes to make the light go out and restore adequate rear brake traction.

The d is for drive, the number is for what gear you are using.Driving in 3rd gear all of the time will decrease gas mileage, and increase engine wear, but as long as the engine rpms aren`t too high there is no immediate damage.
