I need the pinout for the laptop battery, not the CMOS. Indeed, never thought this could be a confusion. :)
I will try contacting Gateway and muscling the manufacturer out of them. As I understand on such questions ... good luck.
I want the pinout of the battery because I want to interface with the logic already existing on the main board. This displays data in the Tray as to length of time remaining for the battery, also controls an LED which shows one color at full charge, another while charging.
As well, the battery connection being active makes the laptop run at a lower amperage to preserve battery run time.
So, this schematic data is critical.
I look forward to hearing from you guys.
Thanks,
MikeThank you both for responding to this.

My laptop model is M 685 E, The battery part number could be one of several numbers:
1) Gateway 8MSBG. This is in the upper left corner of the battery pack.
2) Model Number SQU-517
3) SMP P/N 918C5100F
4) On a label which is across the assembly seam of the pack (clearly to detect tampering) here is a number: C09300HSS044A2DY0712
When I re-ordered before, I googled the 8MSBG and eventually got to a website for a replacement part.
Thanks for your help.JT,
Thanks loads.

Okay, I have a source for some information, but I need the exact model for the laptop and if oyu have the specific battery product number, that would help.

Gateway doesn;t make any mother boards. If you knew which company made that mother board for them and had the same cerial number on the board ,you might be able to find at leeast a manual for the board. What I would suggest is that you look at your current power and led connector if you have the machine and trace the wires back. if you do not have that machine then you will need the serial number and manufacturer of the motherboard. It could be Intel, MSI, ASTRock or Asus in a Gateway FX series which is what it should have coem from.
The most important cables only FIT one plug. If it fits in one but will not fit in ANY others. Thats probably where it goes.
If you need to know which wires for your case such as front usb slots try this pinout diagram

Otherwise you will need to be more specific.

Which battery are you looking for? The CMOS battery? Or do you mean the laptop power battery?
