Question about Jenn-Air JMC7000 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Need to replace JMC7000 Microwave

Everything works except microwave will not heat food and has a burning electrical / insulation type smell. Repair is coming out in a few days, but in the meantime, I want to know if another Jennair model will fit in the same footprint in the built in oven-microwave combination. I cannot locate anyone locally with Jennair microwaves but would like to know model and approximate price of a new one so I can decide what to do based on what the service call shows.

Yours will likely have a bad high voltage diode, transformer or magnetron, all of which are covered under the extended parts warranty for five years from the date of purchase!

All you have to pay is labor, unless it's less than the two-year full warranty, then there's no charge.

That's a really great warranty!

It's on the back page of the owner's manual.

If you opt for replacement, Jenn-Air Customer Care can tell you which model would be a "drop-in" replacement.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

My microwave will not heat. Everything else works.

hello. i can help you.

When the microwave sounds okay, but there's no heat, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. To resolve this problem, you need the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

GE Spacemaker microwave won't heat food

hello kmwnky,
You say that Everything went out at first ( which I assume means that all functions went dead) and then functions started to operate again later... if that is correct and you smelled something burning.. you may have a thermal fuse that failed, filament transformer that failed, magnetron tube that failed or a highvoltage capacitor that failed.. None of these components are something the untrained person should attempt to trouble shoot or replace since there are dangerous energies stored inside the electronics compartment even after power is removed.. Your Micro is > 8 years old and it's probably not worth the cost of repairing at this point. You'd be better served replacing it.. The cost to repair would exceed the cost to replace.. ( I feel like the grim reaper here..sorry..)
Regards,
Rick

How do I fix a Jenn-Air JMC7000 that does not heat up items?

The noise is coming from the high-voltage transformer being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
