It will scan pdfs but you would need adobe professional to add the data for each student. It cannot scan a document and make it into a Word doc because this is essentially an image scanner and .doc files, etc. have more complex embedded information that cannot be captured by a scanner because that information is not visually present (i.e. exact font size, type, formulas, etc.). You'll have to find some other way- sorry!

After you scan the first page, click on add another page or add more, or ahatever your particular program asks for to add another page. When you save as, the pages will all be in one document. If you scan each page, individually as a separate document, they will be just that, separate documents.
It sounds like the vendor set up only one scan destination. That destination is accessed by other computers on the network. You would have to have to create a different scan destination for each computer if you want to be able to scan documents while that computer is off. This is a link to instructions for doing that.

This error message means ADF front side scanning optical alarm (lower optical unit ADF) which indicates ADF (front) lamp intensity check. Please follow the steps provided below:
1. Is the upper glass (white sheet guide)of the reading section dirty?
Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass. # When operating the scanner, the ADF’s inside glass becomes very hot. Take serious caution as the heat can cause burns. Before you clean the inside of the scanner, turn off its power and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet and wait (at least three minutes) until it gets cold.Be careful not to pinch your fingers when the ADF cover is being closed. Note: Cleaning should be done approximately every 10,000 sheets scanned, though it may vary depending on types of documents scanned. More frequent cleaning is necessary when the following types of documents are scanned: - Smooth surface document such as coated paper - Documents printed on almost entire surface - Documents processed with chemical materials such as carbonless paper - Paper with a high calcium content - Pages with pencil lead - Document where toner is not fused sufficiently.
If the above does not help, then the issue is caused by any of the followings for which you may have to contact the Fujitsu Expert/Engineer.
1. Lower Optical unit ADF may be dirty. 2. Lower lamp may not be functioning properly. 3. The connecting cables might be damaged. 4. The connectors are not connected properly.
The Kodak 3500 scanner series is probably the best scanner ever made, but NO, it doesn't read anything! Think of it as a digital camera. It only takes pictures. All OCR, ICR, BAR Code, etc. has to be read by software. Your software looks at the images and pull any info that it has been designed to detect off of that image. Some older scanners had built in bar code and patch code reading, but more and more, the software now does it, usually in conjunction with a Kofax card in the PC.
