Right click on the speaker in the right hand corner of you screen and select open volume control. If you don't see a slider there for Microphone then select options/properties and check microphone. Once it is there then check to make sure that the mute block is not checked.

The headphones don't work on my PC when plugged in to any of the USB ports they are very distorted and are very crackly.

Do you get a good sound from your PC using other headphone? Mean, are you sure you don't have a problem with your PC's audio card?

Why is the sound in one ear only?

It's probably a broken wire.

First, make sure it happens with those headphones no matter what you plug them into. If you're using them on your computer, try plugging them into your phone or someone else's computer. If you're using the quarter-inch adapter, try plugging into something that will take the eight-inch plug (the picture I'm seeing of your headphones shows an eighth-inch plug with a quarter-inch adapter). If the problems goes away, then it's either the adapter or the audio jack on the original device. But a new quarter-inch adapter online or at your local Radio Shack. If that doesn't fix it, then the jack on your device is shot, and your best bet is probably to get a new device. (Before I spent the money on a new device, I'd borrow another set of headphones, just to be sure that the problem persists no matter what headphones you use.) If the device is a computer, then you can buy a USB sound card (which plugs into a USB port and has mike and headphone jacks on the other end) instead of replacing the whole computer.

But it's more likely that the problem will persist no matter what you plug into, and it's your headphones. It's probably a broken wire; sometimes if you jiggle the wires going into the dead earpiece, you'll get crackling to confirm this diagnosis. But it doesn't really matter why the headphones don't work; no matter what's broken, the repair is more expensive than replacement. Time for new headphones.

The above answer assumes that you are listening to a stereo sound source. In addition to trying your headphones on another device, you should make sure you're listening to a stereo sound.

Just bought bush headphones HS-301E USB for my P C placed usb connection in usb port pc reconized hardware but when i came to reduce the volume nothing happened

you need to update your drivers and - select the headphones as your primary listening device. Go into CONTROL PANEL - SOUNDS - select your device - it might say USB sound or something with USB or usb in it. Select that as your default sound and you should be good to go.

Logitech headphone

No it's NOT a problem with your mainboard nor your USB it's the headphones that are ****! I am a tech, bought the Logitech headphones same problem... I try them on 3 different laptops and 2 other PC's and the problem follows the head phones... Simple solution... Don't buy Logitech. That's how I solved my problem. :o)

maybe the laptop you bought was made or design only for windows vista, in that case you have to download all the drivers for windows xp if it is available in the internet.
