Question about Microsoft Wireless Optical USB/PS2 Mouse (X0872982)

1 Answer

Microsoft Wireless Optical USB/PS2 x08-72982 - I just want the wheel to let me scroll up/down. It's very sensitive and pressing it gives me that free-scrolling icon which I don't want. How do I disable the wheel from doing that when it's pressed?

Normal 0 Try disconnecting the Mouse Receiver from the USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When the program asks you to connect the Mouse Receiver to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Hope this helps. Bud

How do I make my scroll wheel work again? It just quit working. Now, I have to click the wheel and move the mouse up or down and it scrolls the page on its own. Nothing happens if I roll the wheel.

If you turn it over you should see 3 or 4 screws in a recess. Sometimes they are covered with stickers. Take the mouse apart and you will see the wheel mechanism and sensors. Clean all the inside with a soft brush.

Or

You could just throw it away and buy a nice new shiny optical wireless mouse.

Did you reboot the computer?

Microsoft wireless mouse 1000 fix scroll wheel

I had a scroll wheel problem with my Microsoft Wireless Mouse 1000 and fixed it as follows.

With the corner of a sharp Stanley knife blade, I carefully peeled off the large pad at the back of the base of the mouse and removed the two screws that are hidden under it. Next I removed the screw located under the batteries. This allowed the top and bottom of the mouse to be separated. I cleaned out the inside with a small paintbrush and then sprayed a small amount of isoproplyl alcohol into the sensor at the right of the wheel. Now it's as good as new.

I have the wireless optical mouse blue x08-72982. I can't find the USB connector. What do I buy from Microsoft? What is the name of it?

Hello,
You will have to buy a whole new wireless mouse. The USB is hard coded for the mouse to a specific ID / frequency. You may find one that works, but it will be like a needle in a haystack and the USB receiver would cost almost as much as a new mouse.

When I scroll with the wheel on my wireless mouse 3000, two pages go by instead of one

go to start>settings>control panel>printers and other hardware
you can djust the sensitivity of the mouse to slow it down. If this doesnt help you then the wheel on your mouse is bad and you will need to replace the mouse.

Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000 v2.0 Scrolling has gone awry

This may not be a solution for you but at least it may explain the cause of the problem. I recently had the same problem - the scroll wheel suddenly began to go crazy, jumping all the way to the bottom or the top of a document, or randomly skipping around. The unit was still under warranty, and Microsoft sent me a new mouse. Since they did not require me to return the old mouse, I decided to take it apart to see if I could find the problem. I found poorly soldered electrical joints to the optical sensor & LED which convert the scroll wheel movement to electrical signals. After I resoldered these connections the mouse worked fine again.
