Auto sheet feeder does not load paper straight causing it to jam.

I have a Cannon Pixma mp160 printer. The paper loader does not load the paper straight into the auto sheet feeder. There fore it clogs and does not work. I have reloaded a number of times and and it does not work. I tried maintenance b and it works only once or twice before the E appears on the menu. I inquired at the place I purchased and was told to try tech support as they only have computer technicians. If you can,t solve my problem where do I take it for repair? I live in Greeley CO. zip code 80631

Normal 0 Worth a try:
I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print buttonapplying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed throughthe printer. The reason for this, in some cases I have been able to clearthe paper track of debris that was deposited there over time. Worth atry. I have fixed a number of printers this way saving costlyrepairs. Hiya

My Canon MP160 started doing the exact same thing. I tried several mods but no luck. Seemed like it would **** hard when starting to print thus mis-aligning the paper. What I found that did worked and solved my problem was putting the printer into 'quiet' mode. In this mode it doesn't **** the paper in as fast and thus doesn't jam. I don't think it has jammed since the change and there's no really noticeable slow down in the output.

Pull up the properties dialog for the printer and go to the maintenance tab.Select 'quiet mode' button and then set it to always use qquiet mode. Worked for me. Hope it works for you!

Paper transport works not properly, 3 flashes orange LED

Hi,
First make sure the printers well connected and the power supply properly plugged.
  • Remove any previously loaded paper.
  • Check out the printers Auto sheet feeder/front feeder for any paper jams and remove manually any visible stuck papers.
  • Turn the printer off and on.This also helps in automatically removing any stuck papers that may not be manually removed.
  • Make sure there is no foreign objects in the Auto sheet feeder.
  • Make sure you load a fair amount of plain papers in the feeder, that is,reduce by half the amount you feed into the feeder.
  • In case the printers rear cover had been removed, fit it properly by pressing it firmly until it fully fits into the rear of the printer.

Hope this helps.Thanks!

The printer keeps telling me it's out of paper, which it isn't

1> Open the sheet feeder cover and pull out the paper support.

Set paper, aligning the right edge of the paper to the cover guide with the paper's print side facing up.

Pinch and slide the paper guide to the paper's left side.

Note: Make sure to set paper lengthwise. Setting Credit Card sized paper long-side down by mistake may cause a paper jam.

Pull down the paper output tray supporting with both hands.

Pull out the extension completely.

Ensure that the Power lamp and the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp light.

Note: If the Cassette lamp lights, press the Paper Feed switch to light the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp.
If the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp does not light even after pressing the Paper Feed switch, Paper Source in the printer driver may be set to the setting other than Paper Feed Switch.

Canon Pixma MP160 shows errors E3 and won't print

Hi there,

Error E3 : Check if the paper has jammed in the machine, reload the paper in the machine correctly and then press [Black] or [Color].

Paper Jams :
Cause : Paper jams in the paper output slot/ Auto Sheet Feeder.
Landscape Credit Card sized paper jams inside the machine.

Action : Remove the paper according to the following procedure.
1) Slowly pull the paper out, either from the Auto Sheet Feeder or from the paper output slot, whichever is easier.
* If the paper tears and a piece remains inside the machine, open the Scanning Unit and remove it. Be careful not to touch the components inside the machine at this time. After removing the paper, close the Scanning Unit, turn the machine OFF and turn it back ON.
* If you cannot pull the paper out, turn the machine OFF and turn it back ON. The paper will eject automatically.

2) Reload the paper into the machine and press [Black] or [Color].
* If you have turned OFF the machine in step , you will need to retry printing, because this operation cancels any print jobs in progress.

If you cannot remove the paper or the paper tears inside the machine, or if the paper jam error continues after removing the paper, contact a Canon service representative.
Important : You cannot load Credit Card sized paper in the landscape orientation.

Hope this helps.
Have a good day.

2) Place a stack of paper (print side up) in the Auto Sheet Feeder, pinch the Paper Guide and adjust it to the left side of the stack.
* Set the Paper ThicknessLever to the correct position for the paper.

Jammed paper

If the paper is lodged too far into the printer and can't be removed:
Press the power button to turn the printer off.
Pull firmly on the paper to remove it. If you can't reach the paper because it is too far in, raise the front cover and remove the paper from the front of the printer.
Close the front cover.
Press the power button to turn the printer back on.
Resend your document to print.

Ensure that:
The paper is a recommended paper for inkjet printers.
You do not force the paper down into the printer when you load it. For example, if you are loading letter or A4 size paper, the top edge of the paper should extend above the top of the sheet feeder.
The printer is on a flat, level surface.
The left paper guide is against the side of the paper.
You do not load too much paper in the sheet feeder. Depending on the thickness of your paper, the sheet feeder can hold up to 100 sheets of paper.
The left paper guide does not cause the paper to bend in the sheet feeder.
Your printer feeds regular paper as expected. If regular paper feeds without causing problems, load the envelopes vertically against the right side of the sheet feeder. Make sure the paper guide is against the side of the envelopes.
Envelopes or the appropriate specialty papers are selected in the printer driver.
You are using a paper or envelope size supported by your printer.

Problem

Hi,
Paper jams can be real or false. The all-in-one may report a paper jam when there is not any jammed paper, however, the solution to a real paper jam or a false paper jam is the same.
To fix the paper Jam errors please try the following steps:
1. Confirm that no foreign materials are inside the machine.
2. Confirm that usable paper is set.
3. Confirm that the paper is set properly.
4. Confirm that recommended paper is used, and the number of sheets set in the auto sheet feeder is within the limit.
5. Disconnect the printer power cord as well as the printer cable form the printer.
6. Turn the printer upside down and shake the printer in order to remove any obstacle which is stuck inside the printer causing the paper jam error.
Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges and check carefully if there is any small piece of paper which is stuck inside, if so carefully remove it.
7. Disconnect the printer power cord and press and hold the power button on the printer for about 15 to 20 seconds( this will release the flee power) and reconnect the printer and check.
