Whirlpool Ultimate Care II Timer Problem?

On the "normal" wash cycle, the washer stops just before draining and rinsing. There is a humm coming from the timer/setting knob and a faint electrical smell. I turned to the "gentle" rinse cycle and it drained and completed the load.

Is this a bad timer/switch and how do you replace it? I assume you just pull the back off to access it, but if it is very difficult I won't bother.

Washer fills, agitates, then stops at the drain/rinse cycle. Turning the dial to a different location results in hearing a ticking sound (from a timer I would imagine) but does nothing.

It ended up being the timer. I replaced it and the washer worked fine until the fall of 2010, then the transmission went and I scrapped it for a new Maytag set.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

My washer when it is in the wash cycle will stop at 1/2 way and not drain, spin or rinse. Could it be the timer? If I turn the knob manually I can get it to finish the cycle.

If you can manually turn the timer to spin and it drains and spins it is a bad timer.
If it drains only and does not spin it is a bad lid switch.

Washing machine won't rinse or spin

sounds as if you have a faulty lid switch, for safety reasons if the machine doesnt think the lid is closed it willnot spin/drain the waer out.

Washing machine starts by itself

going through to the next wash not na normal function, perhaps the machine is advancing to an extra rinse cycle?? this EXTRA RINSE will start after the normal wash is complete, i would check your dial settings perhaps some one has mistaknely switched extra rinse "ON". if htis os not tyhe case the n i would jave to blame a faulty timer mechanism and you would need to replace the timer

Ultimate Care II - Rinse Cycle does not start

sounds like a lid switch problem. is there a clicking noise when you open and close the lid?
if not then the lid switch may need to be replaced; inexpensive.
this could also be caused by a bad timer.
also try a different speed for the rinse cycle, it may be a bad motor and it is not going into a certain speed. instead of gentle or slow speed try fast or normal, something like that.
