When i try to scan it says no scan options

Refer to device documentation.
Everything was working fine until yesterday when I tried to print an excel document and it stopped printing (it said error offline). Then someone at HP (over the internet) walked me through getting the printer back online. Now this problem.

No scan options

hi there,
check your printer whether everything is fine with it, meaning check the ink, check if it can print. somehow with HP's all-in-one printer, when one function can't be used, the others can't too. check and let me know.

Can't scan on the HP OfficejetJ4580

Uninstall everything that has to do with your old HP printer, drivers, photo processing, etc. Reinstall software with J4580 printer. That should open HP Digital Imaging Monitor where you can set scanning options. Plug printer into the back opf your computer. Plug power supply directly into the wall socket.

When I try to open a Word or Excel document I get a message saying "file not available." I can create a new document and then save it, but can't open it up again. Everything was working fine...

Some things to try. XP service pack 3 came out and it and some OS patches could cause conflicts with older Anti-Virus programs. Below is a link to Microsoft's KB

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835404/

So try sending a newly created office file to another PC to see if it can open up on it.

In Word/Excel under the help menu there is a detect/repair option.

Try disabling your AV program to see what happens.
