Re: metal noise under tumbler

You can try to locate the stuff by removing the bose right under your tub; of course by disconnecting all the wall electrics. Access to this is by removing the back panel.

Samsung washer WF328AAW/XAA metal pieces in hose?

Could be a number of things. Either something foreign was left in a pocket (Coins are the most common object) and has come out in the wash. The coin rattles around and falls in between the tubs through the gap in the front gasket. When this happens, the coin can hit the bracket which holds the heater element in place and tears it off. This causes a lot of damage. Most Samsung have plastic outer bowls and often, the tub will be split and a leak will start from underneath. Lastly, it could be the drum main shaft and spider assembly. This is what holds the spin tub into the machine. If this fails, bits of metal will come off. Usually seen as bits of corroded aluminium that get stuck in the pump and hoses. When this happens, the tub usually goes loose and the machine makes a horrible grinding and banging noise when spinning. I would say that if this has happened , its time for a new machine.

Bosche axxis washer spin cycle ticking noise

Assuming everything else is working normally, I would still suspect there is an object that is getting stuck between the rotating drum and the outer housing. Maybe not coins, but something longer, like a pocket comb or the wire inserts used in some garments. It is easy to take the top off of the unit, and this might help to isolate the noise better. Early spin is usually a bit unbalanced, so it is possible it could also be something really simple like a hose clamp that has sagged enough to be contacting something else, and it only shows up when the machine is bouncing a bit.

I have a Maytag Neptune TL washer that won't drain. I took the front panel off and detached the hose from the pump and there were several coins in there. I removed the coins, reattached everything and...

For the FAV6800A or FAV9800A tumbler removal.

The Service manual has the procedure starting on page 37 for the tumbler removal.

It’s not difficult to remove the manual doesn’t call out the Torx driver size required for tumbler removal. You will need a number 20 Torx driver to remove the Torx screw for tumbler removal. I would get a long Number 20 Torx driver for this. See page 37 of the Service Manual for tumbler removal. Looks worse than it is.

The Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.
When I did a recent Outer Tub Bearing replacement I found $1.78 in coins after removing the wash basket. Gotta check those pockets....:)

I have a post around somewhere of my diy Sump Screen I put in my FAV6800AW to protect the drain pump impeller from coins and other stuff from breaking the impeller or causing clogs. I'll look for the post or repost the pic's.........D*ick

Washing machine making vey load something is wrong noise. Called repair man, he states too young (2yrs) to be a drum problem and okay to use just do smaller loads. On 2nd load found metal shavings..have...

The rear half of the outer tub that contains the rear metal bearing has loosened so much that the inner drum has sagged and is rubbing on the front half of the outer tub. You need to see if this is under warranty. There is usually a 5 year warranty on the outer tub and a 10 year or a lifetime warranty on the inner tub. When I do this repair, I replace the rear half of the outer tub and the inner drum since it's under warranty anyway. The repair is the most difficult and time consuming repair possible on that type of washer. It needs to be done by an expert, not just your average washer repair guy. It's not rocket science, but you have to take EVERYTHING apart and it takes a long time and you've gotta know a few things about the machine in the first place. It's not fun. If it's under warranty for parts, expect to pay between $75 and $200 for labor. If the parts are not under warranty, then throw it away. They're $500+ for the parts.

Maytag neptune frontload washer code nd

Yes maam, I sympathize with the situation. The "nd" code on the Neptune is usually a pump related issue. Check the drain line for kinks first, and then the pump will have to be checked. No matter how diligent we are, inevitably hard objects like pins, coins, etc., make it into the washer. Remove the hoses from the pump and using a flashlight, look into the suction port and check for any obstructions. Also check the pump impeller for any broken/missing blades and ensure that the impeller spins freely. If any blades are broken/missing or if you cannot get the impeller to spin freely, the pump is defective. Hard objects that make it to the pump can damage the impeller blades on the pump. Sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Loading Washer Noise

Hello gwatson01,
Wondering if you could rate my clarification request as a solution? I joined this forum as a owner DIY’er to help other owners. The machine is just too expensive to junk and as you found fairly easy to work on. As a forum member as you I receive no compensation for my support to other owners. Thank you in advance for your support. Rich
My solution;
I’m an owner/DIY’er of the machine. Please take a look at this post and see if your mechanical noise may be coming from underneath the tumblers, maybe some coins grinding around under the tumblers. If you think it is take a look at the service manual link in that post. It will take you thru the tumbler removal process, see if you feel comfortable with the process, the manual does not call out a #20 Torx driver is required to remove the tumbler.
If you think the grinding noise is very metallic and not muffled by a tub of water the grinding noise may be coming from the transmission/clutch area and removing the machine front vertical cover will be necessary to better sound isolate the suspect area of the machine. Do you feel OK to remove the front panel? If so see this post.
The 1st link I sent you to shows that this owner had issues after the coin removal. I would also like you try a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket. Can you let me know if that cycle runs with no noise? We can’t totally rule out an issue with the clutch/transmission components with the info supplied so far. To help you remotely diagnose this issue detail information is needed. Let’s try to sound isolate the grinding noise source location. Follow all safety rules in the Service Manual. If you don’t feel comfortable to proceed I would recommend you call in a qualified FAV6800AWW repair service for support.

We have a penny stuck under the white spinning things.

Hello pinkygirll,
The Service manual has the procedure starting on page 37 for the tumbler removal, take a look and see if you feel comfortable to give it a try. If you are handy or someone you know has basic mech. skill sets you can perform. You, I and many others need to check those pockets. Here is the service manual link.
The manual doesn’t call out the torx driver size required for tumbler removal. I just removed my tumbler cap and measured, it’s a #20 torx driver. If you call a repair service in make sure you have your Model# and Serial# number ready to pass along to them. You mentioned”” There is a penny stuck and the washer stops with water in it after it tries to spin.”” The tumblers do not rotate in spin cycle only the wash cycle. If you do a Spin Only cycle with no clothes in the wash basket do you hear the grinding noise? Good Luck.
