Re: Magenta does not print

Can you find the bits and piece to make a orubt head clearing pump like this illustration? If you can take the cartridsge out fit the pump and suck out any ink in the chamger. Then empty the pumt and fill with Windex or propanol alcohol dilute with distilled water to 10%[or windex] and pump this through back and forth untill it shoes clear- put the cart back and see what happens Also download this utility set it up for your printer Also take a look at

Replace pixma printhead

Print heads on this model run about $80 on ebay. Your best bet is to first replace the magenta cartridge even though it may appear to still have ink in it. After that, go into the maintenance menu and run a full cleaning cycle several times. This may clear your clogged print head.

Clean your print head under the ink maintenance / cleaning. Then test print. All your colors should pass this test. Your magenta is not complete.

Sorry for the delay in my answer. No you do not need to remove the ink from the cartridge itself. Soak remove the cartridge and soak it as is. You will get a huge colour change in the water but it will not use any more than 0.1ml of ink

Depending on when you last used your printer it may take a few head cleans before the ink prints. Print a nozzle check after each clean (uses minimal ink).

Also be aware each clean depletes your other carts as well.

Ink clog between magenta cartridge and print head.

print head may be burned out try cleaning it then tap the cartridge and try a test page to see if it prints, if it still does not work try a new cartridge if that does not work then the print head is burned out, it may be under warranty you can go to and input your model and follow the trouble shooting guide and if you can't fix it you can register for free live chat help with the problem and it may be under warranty, many printers are having problems with this color cartridge drying up and causing problems not only hp but other brands as well. I suspect the pigment drys up but am not sure about it.

The other week I had the black print head clog up, requiring daily nozzle deep cleaning [a normal 'ocassional' maintenance function]. Thought I needed a new Print head, so anything worth a try.
I loaded up an old black cartridge [I load all my own......always have] with Isopropyl Alcohol and ran deep clean on that cartridge a couple of times, then repeat printed [6 times] a page full of the number 8 in about half inch character size, to get the alcohol through the nozzles. then Deep cleaned again 3 times, to wash it through the print head.

I reloaded the normal ink filled cartridge and ran the '8' page again till I got good black output. It has now been working without problem, daily, for over a week. Clearly if it's a Magenta only problem, the cleaning as described above would be a bit different, as the magenta is one of 4 colour cartridges.
My printer does quite a lot of work, and was bought at least a couple of years ago, being used daily for alpha numeric and photo printing work. This was the first difficulty I experienced with it.
Hope the above might help.Ken

C84 Wont print red

The printer colour cartridges are magenta, cyan and yellow. The printer prints "red" by mixing magenta and yellow ink. So, if you only get yellow when you print red, it means you aren't getting any magenta ink on the paper.

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select head clean). Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of magenta ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, are you sure you have a good magenta ink cartridge? To eliminate the possibility of a faulty cartridge, buy a new set of compatibles on E-Bay - they're very cheap. You can always re-use the old one later if it turns out it is OK.

If none of the above works, then you may have blocked magenta print head nozzles. You can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid
comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If you get any magenta ink on the nozzle check, then there is hope! Repeat the process until you get a full magenta nozzle check. If nothing, repeat the process once more.

If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

RX680 shows ink is full but will not print lt mag, mag, or cyan

usually the problem occurs when the ink is running low and a big print job is being done. by then, the printer runs out of ink and starts sucking air into the tubes. If several cleanings dont help, try leaving it off for a couple days, turn it back on, try another cleaning and see what happens. if it still does not work, most likely the printhead will need to be cleaned which will cost about $40 - $65 if cartridges are need too.

If you are you using generic ink, that can cause the problem too.
