I have a phone that I got on ebay & I get a no service message on it. I called AT&T & gave them the imei # & she said it would not work because it was not unlocked. Now when I bought this the seller didn't give me much information to go on.He said he had gotten it from a friend & his network did not use sim cards. So I guess I need to know if it's possible to unlock this thing - otherwise it's worthless to me.
That is the risk you run from buying from E-Bay. I hope you got a great deal because you are going to have to take it/mail it to someone so they can unlock it. Not too many people who know how to unlock these phones are willing to share the information for free. Sorry Charlie. Just look up "unlocking a Iphone" on the internet and I'm sure you will find a hundred places that will do it for you(for a fee). Good Luck

Well if you are tied to a particular network all you have to do is to unlock your phone to use it any other GSM network. You can get the unlock code through online. Give your IMEI number & get the unlock code for ur mobile .............You also get through online..........I will suggest the website Unlock-Zone.com which is doing good service .....you can approach this website.
You will have to contact your service provider to get the unlocking code for the phone.
So call up the tool free number of the service provider and give the details of your phone and connection so that the code is given to you ... hope this phone waas given by the provider , if not contact your dealer who gave the phone to get this unlocked.
Type *#06# like you're going to call someone. A number (the IMEI) should come up. Write this down, then call AT&T (or whoever your service provider is). They can be reached by dialing 611 from your cell phone, or 800.331.0500 (customer care) or 866.700.2105 (technical support). Provide them with the IMEI and they will provide you with the unlocking code as well as how to put it in.
1.> Get your cell phones IMEI
number. Press *#06# ( 5 key press) and you should see this number
displayed on your phone. Note down all numbers except the last two. You
will need this when you call your providers customer service to ask for
subsidy unlock code. You can also get IMEI number by removing the
battery cover and battery. You should see the IMEI number written on a
sticker. This number is the correct IMEI number and should match the
one displayed when you pressed *#06# on your phone except for the last
two digit. AGAIN DO NOT GIVE THE LAST TWO DIGIT WHEN ASKING FOR SUBSIDY
2.> Call you cell phone customer service and
give this IMEI number. Ask them to give you SUBSIDY UNLOCK code.
Subsidy unlock code is 16 digit long number.
3.> Once you
have unlock code, press <**< ( < is left navigation key) key
combination ( 4 key press). Select Network to unlock network and enter
the subsidy unlock code. Press OK. You will see Network unlocked
message displayed. Inputting incorrect unlock more than 3 times will
permanently lock your phone to your provider. So beware when you enter
You now have a Sony W580i phone that is unlocked and can be used with any GSM based mobile providers.
Syganos, tatonot gave you some good information. If you go to e-bay you will need to do a search for " unlock v3 ", this should bring up different options for unlocking companies. Make sure you get one that specifies both V3 and T-Mobile. I could not find one for $5. You want to find one that guarantees that you will get a subsidy unlock code or your money back. You will need to give the seller your IMEI # and other information such as who the service provider is on the phone currently and where your from. After they receive payment it can take anywhere from 8 hours to 10 days. Most of them send your information to Motorola in order to get the subsidy code that you need to unlock your phone. Once they get the unlock code they will send it to you along with directions on how to input the code. This part is fairly easy. I would not suggest trying to unlock the phone yourself unless you are familar with downloaing programs and using a cell phone usb data cable that hooks into your v3 and compiter. If you are not familair with this process you can actually kill your cell phone by doing what is called bricking it. Bricking kinda means the same as if you crash a computer. It will not work. Good Luck!
