Yes up to 3.2Ghz with same Bus speed. cache doesnt matter.

Extreme editions and some 3.2Ghz/3.4Ghz chips will need you to flash the BIOS

Let me know how you get on...

How to fix this compaq evo d510 sff

D510 (very old) , looks XP like to me. stuck in VGA.sys, default video mode, lacking the real driver. (xp did that for 17 long years now)

I cant see inside your PC nor scan it with sniffer3. app.
so no answers possible. (just this)
it a desktop and has 2 VGA jacks or 1. (not told)
you never said what's inside.
so no answers but 1.
this pc could have 100s of video cards inside or not. (vast, can list them endlessly)
even 6 by HP sold as options day 1, again i cant see inside.

but XP driver for the onboard chip is at intel
not at HP it's too old now,(no support now)
not at MS, , XP is dead. XP support ended 4 years ago.

so has it for sure for XP, super easy to get at (ask)
but the XP driver does not work on W7 up. (but might if installed (risk)
using the compatible mode, to install the driver.
doing that is tricky want to learn?

here is a wiki page
that shows why XP drivers may not work
on the never windows,(
i call it the XDDM/XPDM snafu.

the steps are convoluted.
run the setup file in XP SP3 compat mode.
extract in and find the Inf file that match your
video GPU chip
then run that INF. (right click it and pick install)
there is no other way to install wrong video driver in W7

ever do this?

I need a recovery disk for a HP Compaq D51sp2.4

You need the disks from HP the model you have is a EVO d510 SFF you will need the configuration tag number and the serial number. 1-800-227-8164 If they aren't available from HP try a third party by googling d510 recovery disks there may be some third party suppliers for them. The third party are usually a little more expensive.

I would like to upgrade my cpu. Can I put a larger cpu? I have a compaq EVO D510 with a 1.8 processor.

You can upgrade the speed of the CPU. Of course in order to do that you must know the motherboard capabilities. If the motherboard is upgradable to 2.0ghz processor with the same specs with your 1.8ghz processor then you can upgrade. If the motherboard is un-upgradable, my suggestion is to replace the motherboard, get a new processor, memory module, etc. Meaning you just bought a new computer. For the mean time, upgrade your memory module. Un-install the software that you don't need. Especially the one the eats up the processor speed.

Evo d510 small form factor with 1.79ghz processor what other size of processor can i put in

The Compaq Evo D510's motherboard has a Socket 478 processor socket, and uses an Intel 845G motherboard chipset.

This is information on the Socket 478 processor socket,

As you can see the processor socket has the holes, while the processor has the pins.
    478 socket holes.

Only Intel processors that fit into a Socket 478 processor socket, can be used.
    Intel Celeron or Pentium 4.

    Motherboard Chipset:
The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.
Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
    Integrated Circuit.

The Northbridge chip handles the high-speed processes, while the Southbridge handles the low speed processes of a computer.

The Northbridge handles the Processor, Ram Memory, and any high speed graphics.

(AGP and PCI Express being high-speed graphics.
Any graphics adapter card inserted into a PCI slot, or Integrated Graphics {On-Board), is a slow speed process. Handled by the Southbridge chip)

[CPU stands for Central Processing Unit, or for short - Processor)

This is information about the Intel 845G chipset,

Scroll down on the left until you come to -
    Read across.

The Nothrbridge chip is the Intel 82845G.
The Southbridge chip is the Intel ICH4.

    As you can read looking across, and at the top of the chart, the 845G will support processors with;

    1) Celeron, Celeron D, and Pentium 4 processors.

    2) Up to a 533MHz FSB. (533MegaHertz Front Side Bus)

(Pentium 4 processors are better than Celeron.
The Celeron was designed as a budget processor.
'Celey's' generally have half of the L2 cache, that a comparable Pentium 4 has)

I felt listing this information in this manner, would help you can make an informed decision, as to what processors are compatible with the Evo D510 motherboard, instead of just stating, "Get this processor".

I will include a link of a website I found some time ago, that sells Pentium 4's with these parameters, at a very reasonable cost.

How to access front side bus settings,on a stock compaq evo d510 minitower, with an intel 845g cpu

I could be wrong, but many of those HP and Compaq models are locked down in the BIOS so that you cannot access/modify those settings. The higher end performance workstations usually allow you to do so, but I would bet this one does not. Sorry for the bad news...
