When I install a DVD it is rejected

There is a message-"Unknown disk, please, check disk again." I get the same message whether the disk is DVD-R, DVD-RW or a movie disk from the library.

Since the message is "unknown disc" rather than "no disc" the optics are working just fine and no amount of cleaning or adjustment will make any difference. There is either a logic problem internally where the digital stream is interpreted or the unit is expecting a PAL disc and is getting an NTSC disc for example. I am not familiar with your particular model, can it read both PAL and NTSC? If so, this may not be an automatic thing. Verify that the settings for the player match the type of discs you have. If that fails, then the next option is to have the logic board changed.

Seems flexible wire connecting optical lens and circuit board is cracked so system control can not recognize what kind of disc is this and generates Unknown Disc error.

adjust lens is a typical process to do if you do some wrong than your combo player gone dam.
if you want to do then open your combo; there is a lens inside and need to configured them.

I own the LG DVD Recorder/Video Cassette Recorder (model LGXBR446). The problem I am encountering is, it plays some DVDs but on others I keep getting "Unknown disk, please, check disk again"...

Hello ethiosoft,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

I would start with a DVD cleaner kit for the player. Chances are, if the drive worked before, then it will again; after being cleaned.
If the issue persists, then the DVD drive is failing. Chances are at that point, it would be cheaper to replace the entire unit then just the DVD drive.

Have a great day!

I had the same problem "unknown disk, please check disk". Tried the reset method described in the owner's manual (power off, unplug and wait 5 seconds). This did not work.

I then put the unit into the setup mode (press set-up on the remote.) I selected "Factory Settings" under the general category and then chose "Set". These reset the unit and it seems to be working okay now. Hope this helps.
