Re: problem with printer
Here is what you do! Uninstall your printer's software by going to Control Panel then clicking on Add/Remove programs. After the list populates scrool down the list and look for Brother Printer .Unistall it. You should have a Disc that came with the printer.Place it in the drive and run it.Reinstallation will fix your problem.

There is a specific order in which you have to install the printer. Do not plug in the Brother MFC until the installation software asks you to do so. If you have the software installed. Uninstall it, unplug the printer, and reboot. Then run the installation again, and plug in the printer when asked by the installation guide.
it sounds like your office is on a domain . you will need to join that domain in order to print to your offices printer. locate the name of the domain and join the domain in order to print to the printer. make sure that the printer is you default printer.
Hi Denise, I can't send you the instructions but if you log into Brother I presume www.brother.com or www.brother.co.uk they'll have them, possibly pdf format so make sure you have Adobe acrobat installed.
Solution #1 has nothing to do with the issue, the thread started asked how to scan a document to email via the mfc-9840cdw, not how to scan a email with antivirus.
Try opening up ports UDP:54925 on your Windows Firewall and try scanning from your computer instead of scanning directly from the printer to a email address. I tried scanning directly from the printer to send to a email and I get a error report of "poor line condition/out of memory" even though the line is fine.
Hi Lera, In you brother suite you can go to the maintanence tab and do the nozzle clean and print head allignment. After you do that print a test page, either from the suite on in the properties of your printer. You can also do general maintanence from the LCD screen on the MFC. Scroll through the menu and you will find there are options for head cleaning and nozzle allignment. Hope this helps.
