Question about Dishwashers

My one month old dishwasher keeps flashing the red light that indicates inlet/drain problems. I have tried what they suggest in the manual and I have rung miele and was told to reset the machine, but I am about to pull it out and leave it on the side of the road. Please help!!!

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls postback the model number. Additionally, since th machine is only a month old, why not contact seller or store where you bought.

If you are attempting a quick user fix, normally, there would be a techsheet with wiring diagram at the bottom/kickpanel for a list of errors/faults and the easy user action corrective to them. Alternately, you can check by/if:

  • unplug from the mains for a longer period of time;
  • water is getting inside;
  • drain is clean/working including filter, bowl/sump, impeller, pump, motor, drain hose;
  • in some instances, it may be necessary to force air dry the bottom area using a can of compressed air, an air compressor, a fan/ventilator or even a hair dryer. The idea is to dryout the flood sensors.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

  1. Check for hose kinks or food plugging drain hose. Start at the drain port exit (there are others, this is just an example)
  2. Check the check valve and drain hose for debris.
  3. Check pump motor for reversing during the pump out make sure the dishwasher is pausing between the wash and drain cycles letting the pump/motor reverse for the drain cycle.
  4. Check timer for not letting the dishwasher pause. ( not all dishwashers )
  5. Check pump motor assembly for a drain solenoid, during the pump out make sure the solenoid makes that distinctive "clunk" noise
  6. If you have recently installed a new garbage disposal, check knock-out plugat connection.
  7. Check pump impeller for damage.
  8. Check that the water inlet valve isn't seeping fresh water into the dishwasher when off.

We have the same dishwasher with the exact same problem. I just pulled it about one or two feet out of its little cupboard thing and the error goes away and it works again, i think that it must extend the hose and free it up a little bit.

    This caused it to lock out on alarm I removed the drain hose from the S
    trap,removed the non return valve from the filter, check the drain pump
    impellar is free, then blow down the drain hose back into the
    dishwasher to make sure it was not blocked then found the drain pipe on
    the S trap under the sink was restricted causing the machine not to
    empty in time for the cycle to continue causing it to lockout on
    inlet/drain alarm. Have a go , good luck.

If the machine does not drain start checking the drain hose.

Ifthe drain lines are not clogged, then you will need to access to thedrain pump, and clean it , or replace it if it is not working.

Machine not draining can also be caused by a defective timer control, but this is rather unfrequent.

This seller also have replacements and delivers worldwide.

LKEt me know the exact model for more troubleshooting.

    To start try resetting the machine.

    On your model turn the knob
    to Stop/End or hold Start/ Stop button for . 5 seconds or longer. Then
    switch the machine off and back on again. If the fault message
    reappears, please contact customer service, as you have a faulty drain pump, and you need a technician.

    Check also the drain filter and drain hose as instructed on the user manual.

Hi dear.If the checked lights comes on after the main wash & then flashes(when on main wash cycle,if the main pump works for a few minutes & then stops for a while & so on...)that indicates main wash pump faulty.You need to replace the motor it self.I hope that helps.Thanks.

Hello , The inlet/drain light on my dishwasher is flashing , I have mislaid the manual can you explain how I can rectify the problem please , I am assuming something is blocked. Regards Georgina Cooke

My G892SC is almost 10 years old and recently had the same problem. The machine seemed to be stuck in the drain cycle and the intake/drain light flashed. I called Miele and ran through a few diagnostic tests but nothing worked. I had a Miele certified technician come out to look at the problem and he told me the drain pump needed to be replaced and that it would cost about $500 for the part and labor. While researching the cost of a new dishwasher, I stumbled on some online discussions about this problem and someone suggested pressing all 4 lower buttons on the control panel at the same time. I tried it last night and it worked! I only ran the wash & hold cycle but will try a full cycle tonight.

Miele dishwasher red inlet light flashes

This is most probably a software glitch. I had the same issue a week ago and my dishwasher is only about 2 yrs old and only gets used on average once a fortnight.

At first I did everything as the manual shows in the troubleshooting section. The whole process takes only about 5 to 15 minutes depending on how good of a handyman you are.

When I cleaned all the parts involved (all pretty clean to start with anyway) and connect them all back, sadly the red light wouldn't go.
It looked like I was stuck with the most hated option I had left: call the dreaded technician and be prepared to depart with some hard-earned cash.

Before doing that and out of desperation, I decided to surf the net for clues, blogs, forums, etc... and on one of them I found my answer.
One blogger suggested that "if anything else fails, try the 'reset' step" which means pressing at the same time the On/Off button and the Start/Stop button. That operation put a big smile on my face (and my wife's face too) as the red light magically disappeared.

My suggestion is "first try the reset trick and if that fails try and clean the parts as the manual shows". It'll save you headaches because the reset would do the trick in 90% of cases.

I work in IT and I can understand the fact that a software malfunction would trigger the red light and not reset it.

Good luck.

Hotpoint FDW60 flashing eco light

if the eco light is flashing, this indicates that saftey float switch has activated in the base of the dishwasher usually caused by a leak, a polystyrene float activates a microswitch which cuts of the water inlet supply

Wash motor does not run: Inlet/Drain error

Wordhog: Does sound like a siezed wash pump to me. Wash motor needs to run to get the correct level of water.

To drain a Miele dishwasher, start the machine on a cycle. All the Miele range of dishwashers drain before filling. Then hold in the start button until the end/finish light is lit. Keep doing this until all the water has gone. You could just get a jug and bail it out. Once the jug does not do the job anymore, switch to a cup, I use a very large syringe for the remaining half a litre.

Miele G646SC Plus dishwasher Drainage / inlet warning light

I had the same problem a few days ago. I followed the instructions to clean the filter and check to see that the impeller was free to rotate in both directions. The problem persisted. After reading this thread, and a similar one on another site, I tried what mikeboerma suggested in "solution #3", and bingo, problem solved. The magic combination is to push and hold the on/off button and the start/stop button.

Dishwasher error codes please help

I too had this problen today. Printed off a manual from the Hotpoint website. Very helpful troubleshoot section. Anyway, flashing eco and fast lights and beeping sound indicates 'water feed pipe blocked' You need to check the water inlet connections on your tap.However, when we pulled it out we noticed the blue water inlet pipe was slightly kinked. Straightened this out and hey presto! It works fine again. How this happens when its worked ok for 18 months will never know but still. Try it! hope this was helpful...shewoo
