Problems with HP deskjet f380. Will not print... scans and copies

Hello, since buying a new laptop (vista) my printer stopped printing. It scans and copies ok. I have reinstalled the software from HP and looked for the latest drivers. the Installation seemed successful. It won't even print a test page.
Can you please help
cheers

Hi, thanks for your help... but I couldn't follow the steps given in your first help list as the options in vista don't seem to follow that of XP. I got lost and as I've spent many hours trying to solve this i'm begunning to think I should cut my losses and get a new printer (not an HP).
I also came across an article explaining why there are some problems using certain pre vista hardware with vista (i have copied this below.)
    thanks again for your help.

Here's why your HP printer still doesn't have Vista drivers

    As I've written before,
driver support is the biggest issue confounding Windows Vista users,
and probably a primary reason why many folks are shying away from it.
They're hesitant to buy new machines with Vista on them because
printers, scanners and other devices may not have Vista drivers.
    This
same scenario happened previously with the release of Windows XP, but
because XP was a more compelling leap from the Windows 9x operating
systems, users were more willing to suffer through that pain.
Vista is not so compelling, and many customers are still demanding XP on new PCs as a result.
    In
both cases, Microsoft made test versions of its operating systems
available to hardware makers well in advance of its release, urging
them to get drivers out the door as soon as possible. If that's the
case, why aren't manufacturers ready to roll when a new version of
    Windows is launched?
One of the biggest offenders, both with XP
and Vista, has been Hewlett Packard. Some of its XP printer and
scanner drivers weren't ready until nine months after that operating
system was released. And today, many HP customers are still awaiting drivers for Vista....

I have a small home network with two desktops and two laptops running XP.

I have an F380 Deskjet cabled to one of the desktops and it is shared through the network without problems.

I have just got a new laptop running vista and it cannot connect to the printer although it is shown on the printer. When I try to connect to the printer a message says that drivers need to be installed but then a message says that it cannot connect to the Deskjet.

The Vista laptop can see and be seen on the network and shares both ways

I had this problem. My HP F380 also stopped accepting professionally filled cartridges too. The only solution was to start buying HP cartridges. Thankfully these are much cheaper on eBay than buying at the RRP in shops or elsewhere online.

If you have Vista as your operating system, Windows Vista provides a basic set of scanning drivers, also referred to as Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) drivers, that you can use as an alternative to scan a document when you cannot scan using the HP drivers. You can still scan with one of the following methods:

If you can't get it to scan an image then you might have to have it brought to a repair center. How often do you use the copy function? Scanning function?

I had the same problem. I could print, but not scan.

However, if you open up Paint and go to file and scan, it will scan your document. For some reason, using the scan button on the printer itself will not work with Vista, but using Paint will. I also heard that using Windows fax and scan will also work.
good luck
