Re: wireless crd

Hi alioops, unless you're using a laptop with the FS7600, normally you can't use or install the netgear wireless pc card (WG511;PCMCIA Card) to a regular desktop computer. If however, you're using a laptop, then you have to find a narrow rectangular slot normally at the side of the laptop with flip or hinge cover. Merely pushing in the Netgear Wirteless PC Card into the said slot would physically install it. Of course, it has to fit snugly and perfectly in order to work. Further you may have to install the drivers that are in a CD that comes with the card. Hopes this works for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.

What is a USB receiver?

If your computer is a laptop, most of (all) laptops comes with a built-in wireless adapter. And if it is working, you don't need one.

If you have a desktop (a tower casing, monitor, keyboard and mouse) setup, mostly they don't have built in wireless receiver. But if your desktop is custom built like mine, I have installed a wireless card in my desktop. But not really recommended. Since it sits in the desktop tower casing and if you need to get more signal and have to move around, you get furious because it is not mobile.
USB receiver or adapter can be extended via a USB extension cable (3 meter, 7 meter, 10 meter) and put it where the signal strength is high or remove it and use it on any other computer (laptop or desktop) with a USB port.
So, if your computer is not equipped with a wireless adapter/card built in and need to have wireless access, you need to buy a usb wireless adapter. These days they are as cheap as 8$ to 50$.

Hope this helps.

Can a compaq fs7600 connect to a wireless internet or is it too old?

The monitor is just a display device, it how fast your PC is. I can easily surf the web for simple email and browsing the net with P3 1.GHz machine running XP PRO. You will need WIFI card for the PC.

I am having problems connecting to wireless with my TI PCI-1420 Cardbus Controller on my Dell Latitude C510 after I reinstalled Windows XP. It is acting like there is no wireless adapters at all.

You need Service Pack 2 or above to use wireless on XP. I have always hated this problem and feel your frustration.

You will need to either hook your computer up on a wired connection to get the service pack or download it on another computer and transfer it by some type of removable media (CD, floppy).

Service Pack 2 download link:

Wireless not working

Make sure the wireless pickup for the laptop, integrated or separate is installed properly and is enabled. The laptop should have a function key (check your manual) like "FN". Pressing this key and usually a function key (F1-F12) should tell you if the wireless function if built in is enabled. If the wireless pickup is USB or a PCMCIA, check the installation again and make sure the hardware is compatible with each other. It's usually not a good idea to mix vendors like using a Linksys router with a Netgear pickup.

Toshiba Satellite no wireless and want it

Your 1415 has a mini-PC card slot for an internal WiFi card. Bottom, right hand side, in the back. Buy a mini-PCI WiFi card, click it in, connect the antennas, and you're good to go.

If you dunno which card to get, this will always work: model MPC13A-20/R. Around $10 on ebay.

Of course, USB will always work but it sticks out like a sore thumb and it's cumbersome!
