Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

D-link Di-524 invisible to my new laptop

I set up my router 2-3 year ago, and it was working fine both on network cable and wireless.

At the time, I likely gave it a name and/or password, toggle on an option no to broadcast itself, and configured both laptops. Laptops got stolen.

Our new laptop works fine when hooked to router via a cable and on public wireless access, but is does not see our own wireless network.

I started the configuration manager and do not find any security option on or off. Does someone has an idea what i could have turned on so that my modem is "invisible" to other computers ?

Thank for any help
TK

Oh well, i just realized that the configuration manager i had opened from dlink.com did not open my own router but was just an emulator

    http://support.dlink.com/Emulators/di524...

If i rather use http://192.168.0.1, i am asked for an admin password that i dont know off (probably on my backups at the office, close for a week), so what next ?

    Thanks.

First i have found the username and the password, and can now access it.

The home > wireless settings are as follow.

Any idea why the laptop cant see it wireless ?

My guess is that a "broadcast ID " must be turned off somewhere, but i cant find where.

Hello - sorry I wasn't here to help sooner -but glad you are back online! All the best.

Hello, Do the defaults work, ie username: admin and no password (ie just leave blank)?

If it does (though this seems unlikely given your posting) - you can check whether SSID broadcasting is enabled or disabled by going to Home > Wireless.

Cant connect my laptop wirelessly...

Try to reconfigure your wireless network on your DI-524.

To access the configuration page of your router by Default type in on the address bar 192.168.0.1. On the login page by default the Username is admin and leave the Password blank.

If inside the the configuration page of the router

>Click Home
> Click on WIRELESS located on the left side and you will have the wireless setting of your network
> Change the wireless network name
> Under security choose either WEP or WPA -PSK for this type of router.
> Type in your new network key (also know as Passphrase of Key1).

For WEP use 0 to 9 Number or A to F character and it should be exactly 10 characters.
For WPA-PSK you can use alpha numeric from 0 to 9 and from A to Z. The minimun character would be 8.

> Click on apply
> Click on continue.
Try accessing your wireless network first using your wireless computer. If you are connected to your wireless network try connecting to the Internet.

New HP laptop will not connect to wireless secure network

Problem solved. I disabled the security on my network. I connected the new laptop to the unsecure network. I saved the settings on the laptop for the unsecure network. I rebooted the laptop. I re-enabled security on the router. I tried to connect to the network. I got an error on the laptop saying the network saved settings did not match. I modified the settings to a secure network on the laptop and saved the 128 bit key. Rebooted everything. All works fine now.

New laptop can not connect to Di-524 router

connect the router to pc via a ethernet cable, then there should be a reset pin hole on the back, press this, the router will restart and clear the password, restart pc next, then type in the routers address again and you should connect.

You can then remove the cable and connect using the wireless connection

DI 524 Frequent Wireless Network Loss

Try changing the channel of your router ex (channel 1-6-11). Since you upgrade the firmware of your router you need to reset it to factory default and reconfigure everything so the new firmware will take effect.

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.

DI-524 One wireless connection makes others not ok

This is unusual, as it seems the router is allocating two pc's the same IP address. Go into your routers settings (internet browser and type the router address, eg 192.168.1.1)' and look at Client DHCP list and look at the IP addresses that each pc has been given and see if two are the same, they should be one digit difference, that being the last. Also go into the properties of both your pc's wireless cards and ensure that they are set to obtain an ip address automatically.
