Try a different USB cable and different USB ports. Lots of times it's the cable.

Try holding the power button "UP" for 15 seconds, wait a few moments, try turning on and off then reconnect to computer. This resets the unit.

Force MSC mode - power button "DOWN" in hold (orange showing), press and hold CENTER button while connecting USB cable (& don't release CENTER button until unit is recognized). You won't be able to transfer DRM-protected content but it might just fix what's ailing you.

Hope this helps.

Bad Track

Change the Mode on the device and try to format again.

SETTINGS>MODE or USB MODE.

If that doesnt work. This will;

Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.

http://rapidshare.com/files/67740173/e200fw01.00.12.exe____

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.

- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.

Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Best of Luck.

Not enough space for music db. please free 6mb

PLace the Sansa in Recovery Mode, plug in, and see that the 16MB FORMAT icon appears in Windows Explorer.

Right click in the window, and create a new folder named sansa.fmt

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FORMAT THE RESERVED PARTITION USING THE WINDOWS FORMAT COMMAND!!

Drag and drop the sansa.fmt folder into the 16MB FORMAT partition. Right-click and select eject.

Unplug, and see if it will automatically format.

To fix it, format your Sansa. I had the exact problem. Plug it in, then in "My Computer" right click its icon and hit format. Do not select quick format. Then it will be fixed.
