Question about Olympus EVOLT E-300 Digital Camera

OK Button does not work

I have had my evolt 300 for several years with no issues. Today I discovered the OK button is not functioning. I have not made any shortcuts to this button and no matter what I do, it does nothing. Any ideas?

Thanks. So I can go to any repair shop? I live in Fairbanks, pickings up here are slim, I think there are 2 in town :) Was hoping I don't need to ship it to a service center.

Your OK button is like computer keyboard keys. There is a pad behind the button that pushes down onto the circuit board and makes contact. Sometimes the pads get worn and need cleaning or the pad gets old and stays down and your menu goes crazy, just like a stuck keyboard key. If they need cleaning, then let a reliable photo repairman clean the contact. If the board contact is bad, then the board is replaced. Sorry to advise you that this is not a DIY fix because I've seen many cracked LCD's from amateur attempts to open DSLR backs then the problems just get compounded. Seek a good source of camera repair. Thanks for asking Fix-Ya.

Sorry, but if you look at the Fix-Ya website, you'll find many reputable camera repair people. Get an estimate first. And I think being in Alaska, you might have to ship the item anyway. You know I was just thinking = Alaska = cold = moisture = not good on unsealed digital cameras. I would like to suggest after your camera is fixed, buy a waterproof underwater housing for your camera or any digital camera you buy unless it's waterproof. It would be the best thing you can buy for your digital cameras. When I was a photographer for AutoTrader, I bought a waterproof Kodak that I used in the winter and the rain. Great camera and it still works today after 10 years of shooting. Good luck.

My Evolt E-300 won't take a picture. Seems find until you go to take the pic and then the shutter opens and closes multiple times without any picture.

Try to set all menu items to default as much as you can. Some cameras have a reset to default setting or a button to reset to default.
After setting to default, try the camera again.
If all fails, this camera will need repairs.
If it is too old, and not worth it, it may be the best to sell for parts on a site such as Ebay.

Joystick

While trying to fix this problem today I discovered something that seems to help, at least in my case. If I push down on the small button located below the joystick/onoff button, while also tapping the OK button, the camera responds to the OK. (This is the display/info button.) I'm not sure why this works or whether it would help in every case, but it would be worth a try. I've been able to finally set my date and make other changes necessary after recharging my battery.

Digital camera quite working

Check out the pins in the base of the card chamber- are any missing or bent? Next check out Mirror action- is it working? Try to get onto the Olympus Tech Support team. If it is broken I think a repair will not be an option- the cost if possible will be well on the way to the next camera This is my camera too - lovely under rated beasts

Focus modes

There are four focus modes: S-AF (Single auto focus), C-AF (Continuous auto focus), MF (Manual Focus), and S-AF/MF (Simultaneous mode). (SINGLE Auto Focus): Focusing is performed once when the shutter button is pressed halfway. C-AF (CONTINUOUS Auto Focus): The camera repeats focusing while the shutter button is pressed halfway. (MANUAL FOCUS): The function allows you to manually focus on any subject while looking through the viewfinder. SIMULTANEOUS USE of S-AF mode and MF mode: You can fine-adjust focus manually by turning the focus ring after AF is performed in the S-AF mode.
